Looking for solutions to indicator light and starting problems in VW Tiguan (2017, petrol)

Fault stored

Check engine light on

Car won't start

Engine shuts off by itself

Hey guys, I'm having some problems with my VW Tiguan (year 2017, gasoline engine). The indicator light is on, the engine just shuts off and then I can't start the car. An error is also stored. It occurred to me that a coding error could be the reason. Have any of you ever had similar experiences and could give me tips on how to rectify the fault? I am particularly interested in how your garage solved the problem. Thanks for your help.

Hello, I had a similar problem with my VW Touran (built in 2015). I'm not a car specialist, but more of a hobby mechanic with some experience. In my workshop, incorrect programming of the engine control unit was finally identified as the cause. The experts there then reprogrammed the engine control unit and everything has been working great ever since. It cost me 180 euros - a hefty price, but it was worth it. It could be the same problem with your Tiguan, but I need some more details to be sure. Can you tell me what specific symptoms you've noticed so far? Did the problems start suddenly or have they developed gradually? That might help narrow down the cause better.

Thank you for your helpful answer. I had my last service at 61288 km. The problems came on quite suddenly with no prior warning signs. One day while driving, the engine just stopped and after that there were start and error in the ECU. I have not changed anything in the coding of the car and am a bit at a loss. I also suspect it has something to do with the engine control unit. Your experience sounds pretty similar to what I'm going through now. Hopefully your tip works for me and is worth the price!

Hey, thanks for the additional info. Definitely sounds like my experience. Sudden failure without warning indicates a significant problem, this could really be the engine control unit nod working correctly. Because if the coding is faulty, the ECU won't respond as expected and that can lead to all the problems you've described. I would advise you to visit a workshop as soon as possible and tell them exactly what your problem is and my similar experience. Checking and reprogramming the engine control unit seems to be the best solution in your case. Of course I can't say with 100% certainty with my layman's knowledge, but it's definitely worth checking. Good luck and I hope that your Tiguan will soon be running smoothly again!

Hello, that is indeed good advice. I also suspected that it might have something to do with the engine control unit. I will follow your tips and inform my garage. Hopefully that will solve my problem. Thanks again for your help. Keep your fingers crossed for me!
