Looking for help: Problems with Peugeot Bipper 2010 - Black smoke, loss of power and high fuel consumption

Engine shuts off by itself

Strong exhaust smell

Stalling while idling

Check engine light on

Jerking on acceleration

Loss of engine power

Unsteady engine

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Poor fuel economy

Hey, I need your help! I have a problem with my Peugeot Bipper, gasoline, year of manufacture 2010. It shows black smoke when accelerating, the engine light is on, the engine just stalls and has clearly lost power. It also runs unevenly, jerks when accelerating and the fuel consumption is extremely high. There is also a strong exhaust smell and it dies when idling. I think that the problem may be due to the functional restriction of the fuel injection. How do your garages get to grips with this and what experiences have you had with it? I would be delighted to hear your tips and experiences!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2008 Peugeot Partner. I'm not exactly an expert when it comes to cars, but I do have some experience. Took it to my garage at the time and they said the engine control unit was faulty. Of course, the original diagnosis was not 100% correct, we had to invest some time to determine the cause. It ended up costing me about 1000 euros, but after that the thing ran like clockwork. Maybe you have the same problem? It would be helpful to have a little more information to be able to help you better: How many kilometers has the car done? How often have you taken it to the garage? When did you last change the oil? I hope I was able to help you!

Hey, thanks for your message. My Bipper has now done 40236 kilometers and the last oil change was during the last service. I've been to the garage maybe two or three times so far for minor issues, but nothing to do with the current problem. Maybe you're right and it does have something to do with the engine control unit. I will definitely have it checked. Thanks a million for your help!

Hey, no problem at all, that's what we're here for, to help each other! With your mileage and previous visits to the workshop, the car seems to have generally run quite well. And of course there can always be the odd breakdown - it's just a technical device, nobody can predict that. But now to the actual problem: It could indeed be the engine control unit, but of course there's never a guarantee. I can also confirm the issue with the injectors - if they are clogged, this can lead to these symptoms. So it's best to check that too. But as I said, it's always best to have the car checked by a specialist. They know best and can tell you exactly what's wrong. I hope you get the problem solved soon and can enjoy your Peugeot again. Keep us up to date, will you? I'd be interested to hear how it turns out in the end! Good luck and cheer up! You'll get it sorted!
