Looking for help: Problems with Mercedes A Class (model year 2016) - oil lamp lights up and engine overheats

Overheating

Metal shavings in oil

Weird engine noise

Oil light on

Hello folks! I really need your help. My Mercedes A Class (built in 2016, petrol engine) has been doing strange things recently. Oil lamp lights up, engine makes strange noises and it overheats quickly. I think maybe the engine oil sensor is broken. Do you have any experience with this or any other suggestions as to what the problem could be? How did you get it fixed at the garage and what was your experience? Would love to hear your advice and experiences. Thanks in advance!

Hi, it happened to me with my Mercedes B Class (built in 2014, gasoline engine). I would describe myself as a car enthusiast with some experience. The problem with me was actually the coolant level was supposedly too low. The garage was quite helpful, they checked it for me and corrected it for around 52 euros. Problem solved. But before I share more details, I need more information about your vehicle. Has your car been serviced in the past? Are you using the right engine oil? With a little more information, I can help you better.

Hey, thanks for your quick reply! Well, I haven't tried the coolant yet. I had the last service at 152489 km. Apart from that, I always use the recommended engine oil. Could it be something serious with the engine? The little one has already run a few kilometers. Looking forward to your thoughts on this.

Nice of you to reply so quickly. Well, the things you're listing could actually indicate a major problem with your engine. I would strongly advise you to take your car to the garage immediately to prevent further damage. There they can diagnose the exact source of the problem. If you're lucky, it's just the sensor, but it could also be an indicator of a broken connecting rod bearing or a broken piston ring or something similar. Just about fitted my B-Class. After a quick diagnosis at the garage, they said the connecting rod bearing had pretty much given up the ghost. They recommended an engine change, which is of course quite an investment. Don't feel pressured by the cost factor, sometimes there are cheaper solutions. Wait and see what they say first. Finally: checking the coolant level and topping it up still doesn't hurt, that's a different problem, but it's also important. Take care of the little Mercedes, the engines normally have a long service life.

Hello again! Thanks for your tips and explanations. Yes, I think it's best to get my faithful companion checked out thoroughly. I'm a bit worried about him, but judging by your words, it's better to find out what's wrong sooner rather than later. I'll be on my way first thing tomorrow to have the coolant level checked and also tackle the possible engine problem. Fingers crossed that we can find a cost effective solution. Your help has been very valuable, thank you!
