Looking for advice on engine problems with Mercedes Vito Diesel (2020)

Hey guys! I'm currently having some problems with my diesel Mercedes Vito (2020). Black smoke comes out of the exhaust when accelerating, the check engine light is on, it takes longer to start when cold, has loss of power, the engine runs rough, it twitches when accelerating, sometimes won't start, it stalls when idling and it shakes when idling. I think it could be a mixture conditioning fault. Have any of you ever had similar problems and can give me tips on the best way to fix it? What experiences have you had, especially if you have had the problem fixed in the workshop? Really grateful for any advice!

Hey, I actually had a very similar problem with my Mercedes Vito (2018). I wouldn't call myself a real professional now, but I do have some experience with cars and usually know what I'm doing. In my case, the fuel pressure regulator was faulty. A local garage helped me to fix the problem. The repair cost me 250 euros, but I haven't had any problems since. Can you please give me more information about your car? In particular, I need details of the mileage, condition of the oils and filters and whether there are any warning messages on the display. Then we could identify the problem more precisely and help you better.

Hey, thanks for your reply and help. It has 657 km on it and the last service was about 20 km ago. As far as I know, all the oils and filters are fine. The only warning message I get is the check engine light. Hope this helps with troubleshooting.

Thank you for the additional information. So your car isn't that old, doesn't have that many kilometers on it and you've recently had a service. That's good! The check engine light could mean many things. In your case, with the black smoke and the other symptoms, it could still indicate a problem with the mixture preparation. However, I would recommend taking the car to a garage and having the fault memory read out. This will give you a more accurate diagnosis. It could also be something more serious, such as a faulty turbo or injector. Don't worry, in many cases such problems can be solved and it depends on the correct diagnosis and repair. If the mixture preparation is faulty, your injector, fuel filter or mass air flow sensor could be affected. These are the usual suspects. Your garage should be able to find and fix the problem. Hope this helps and let us know what comes up!

Hey, I really can't thank you enough for your thorough answer. I'm going to take the car to the garage as soon as possible and have the fault memory read out. Your words have made it a little less stressful. And sure, I'll keep you posted. Thanks again!
