Location of exhaust gas temperature sensor 4 on a Mercedes E-Class

Good evening, the engine control light is on in my Mercedes E-Class and the error code P247115 is displayed. The same error code with the description 'Exhaust temperature sensor 4 exhaust system cylinder bank 1' was read out at the workshop. Could someone please tell me exactly where exhaust temperature sensor 4 is located? Thank you in advance!

The exhaust temperature sensor 4 on your Mercedes E-Class is typically located near the exhaust system, specifically on the exhaust manifold or downpipe of cylinder bank 1. It's often positioned after the turbocharger. Make sure the engine is cool before inspecting or replacing the sensor. If you're unsure or uncomfortable with locating or replacing it, I recommend having a professional mechanic take a look. Let me know if you have any further questions or need more assistance!

First of all, thanks for the quick reply. I forgot to mention that I replaced the sensor located on the exhaust manifold next to the engine. I deleted the error with the Carly app, and the check engine light stays off on the first start. As soon as I start it a second time, the check engine light comes on again, and when I read it out, it shows the same error message.

Double-check the wiring and connections to the sensor you replaced to ensure they are secure and undamaged. A loose or damaged connection can cause the error to persist. If everything looks good, there might be another issue with the sensor circuit or a different sensor. Let me know how it goes or if you have further questions!

I checked that too and I'm sure I connected the sensor correctly because you can't connect it wrong, and if it were a wiring problem, I wouldn't be able to delete the error, or the error would immediately reappear and not after the second or third start. For example, this morning I deleted the error, drove to work, then drove home after work without any error messages. The error only appeared after the third start.

Consider checking the exhaust system for any leaks or blockages that might affect the sensor's readings. An intermittent issue like this could be caused by fluctuating exhaust conditions. If the problem persists, it might be worth having a professional perform a more thorough diagnostic to ensure there are no underlying issues. Let me know if you need further assistance or have any questions!

So I found and replaced exhaust gas temperature sensor 4 and solved the problem. The sensor next to the exhaust manifold should be exhaust gas temperature sensor 1 (I replaced it, but the error remained). Then after the turbocharger comes number 2 (I unplugged it, then read out a new error: exhaust gas temperature sensor 2), then in the particulate filter is number 3 (I replaced it, but the error remained). After that, in the middle, comes exhaust gas temperature sensor 4; after I replaced that one, the error disappeared.

Great to hear you resolved the issue by replacing the correct sensor. If you have any more questions or need further assistance in the future, feel free to reach out. Safe driving!

I have a question regarding the Carly app. I have a subscription and pay about 70 euros annually. However, I don't see a coding function in the app. What could be the reason?
