Light problems on the Audi Q7 2006: Lights switch on unexpectedly

Error in the lighting

Lights are turning on

Good afternoon everyone, I'm a bit worried about my 2006 Audi Q7 with diesel engine and about 24500 km mileage. I have problems with the lights, the lights come on when they should be off. I suspect that the light switch is not working properly. Have any of you had similar experiences and can give me a tip on how you solved the problem? Unfortunately, I didn't have a good impression of my garage last time and would appreciate some advice. Thanks in advance!

Hey, I had a similar problem with my Audi A6, model year 2009. It was quite annoying when the lights of my car just wouldn't stop coming on! Believe me, the garage didn't make it easy for me. The problem was with the ignition switch and not the light switch, as I had initially thought. The electrics had a small short circuit and this told the lights to just stay on. You can imagine how surprised I was when they told me that. And yes, it was a pretty serious problem after all. So, maybe check the ignition switch, could be where your problem is. If you have any more questions, just ask! It's always good to understand a bit more, especially when it comes to cars. Good luck, buddy!

Thanks for the tip, buddy! I wouldn't have guessed that now. Can you still remember what you had to pay in repair costs for the ignition lock? And did you notice anything else at the time or did everything work smoothly again afterwards? My Audi is quite a bit older, so maybe there's more to come. I would be really pleased if you could answer me. Thank you!

Hey, sure, no problem! So after my visit to the workshop, the limited function of the light switch was rectified. The guys found a faulty wiring harness and worked on it properly. I can tell you, it cost quite a bit. The fun with the wiring harness made me €155 lighter. But after that everything ran like clockwork again, no more continuous light show. Your car is older, so it could be that there's more to it than that. My advice: give the car a thorough inspection, then you'll be on the safe side. Good luck, buddy! And if you have any more questions, just ask them.

Thanks for the quick reply and the detailed information. That sounds like a costly repair, but if it goes smoothly again afterwards, that's worth something. I'll take your advice and have my Audi checked thoroughly. And the 155 euros for the wiring harness...well, I'll just have to put up with it. I just hope that it stays that way and that there are no more surprises in store for me. Thanks again for your help, man! If I know more or have any further questions, I'll get in touch. Take care and have a safe journey!
