Lexus UX Hybrid 2021: User Experiences on Weak Battery Issues and Flickering Lights at High Mileage

Hey fellow Lexus enthusiasts, could do with some advice regarding my 2021 UX Hybrid. Roughly clocked in 55541 KM so far, and I've started noticing a weak battery on startup and some abnormal dimming/flickering lights. Did anyone else experience a similar issue? I suspect it's the Emergency Call System's battery running low. Would love to hear your stories and how your mechanic handle such situations, especially after a dodgy experience with my last one. Appreciate any shared experiences or insights!

Hey there, I faced a similar scenario with my 2018 Lexus NX Hybrid a while back. I'd racked about 60k KM, then weirdly enough, same as yours, the startup felt weak and the lights started playing tricks, flickering and dimming. Turned out, it was in fact the Emergency Call System's battery going haywire. Much like you suspected. My garage guy went through the diagnostics, and stuff. They had to sort backward compatibility issues but besides that, they got it done pretty smoothly. The only hitch was, since this was an issue tied to the technology side of things and not the usual schemes of engine or electrical, it took them some time to completely wrap it around. So it wasn't a 'drop it today, get it tomorrow' kind of deal. A well-equipped mechanic/shop with good knowledge of hybrids should be able to take care of it without much fuss though, so no stress! Just make sure to pick someone reliable this time and maybe double-check if they have prior experience with this issue on a Lexus. Cheers and good luck.

Hey, thanks a ton for your response! Honestly, hearing about your similar experience gives me some peace of mind. Just a quick one - can you recall how much you were charged for the fix and did any other issues pop up since then? Hoping to get a ballpark figure before I approach a mechanic myself. Drawing on your insight, I'll ensure to pick a well-versed mechanic this time who's more familiar with hybrids, particularly a Lexus. Thanks for the heads up really helps! Cheers!

Hey, no problem at all, glad to help out. Okay, so if we're talking figures, I paid about €110 to get the Emergency Call System's battery sorted out. The process was largely problem-free since then. Sure, it took a bit of time, and I had to endure a few days without my Lexus, but it was definitely worth the peace of mind. Anyway, fingers crossed your experience goes as smoothly. If your mechanic is any good with hybrids, I reckon you should be back on the road in no time. All the best take care!

Fantastic, that's really helpful! €110 sounds reasonable and I'd take a few days without my Lexus over recurring issues any day. Thanks for being generous with your experience and advice — it's made this ordeal seem a lot more manageable. Fingers crossed my trip to the mechanic goes as smoothly as yours. If it does, I'll be back on the road and causing envy in no time. Thanks again! Take care.
