Hey, thanks for the quick response. I've just checked the transmission oil and it seems fine. The grinding and whining noises often happen as I switch gears while accelerating, not so much when idling. I also noticed it more after I've driven a bit, usually after first 15-20 min. My Lexus SC has logged a total of 86708 KM as of the last service. Not sure if this info is helpful too. Will probably bring it to a mechanic this upcoming week. Company_name
Hey! Glad to hear you got your oil checked out. Good move! So, hearing that your noises occur more often while accelerating and after the car has been driven a bit definitely give me a more concrete picture. In my non-expert opinion, it's very much possible that the issue lies with your transmission's synchros or bearings. Both of these parts are crucial for smooth shifting but can wear out over time and with heavy use, which looks to be the case given the age and mileage on your car. Don't be too alarmed though! It sounds more serious than it often is. When I had similar problems, my mechanic managed to sort things out with parts replacement and it wasn't as expensive as I feared, thankfully. Until you can see a mechanic, try to shift as smoothly as possible to minimise further damage. And hey, keep us updated on the situation. I'm curious how it'll pan out. Good luck!
Thanks you've been really helpful! Certainly put my mind at ease a bit. I've been extra gentle on the shifts lately following your advice. Mechanic's appointment is locked in for Thursday. I'm bracing for a synchros or bearings replacement. Fingers crossed it doesn't cost me an arm and a leg! Really appreciate your insights and I'll keep you posted on how it goes. Cheers!
Hey there, I've got a 2006 Lexus ES, not afar from your model and faced a very similar problem last year. I'm by no means a car expert, but I've got some experience tinkering around. In my case, it turned out to be a low transmission oil level. A suggested checking the fluid level and when I did, it was indeed low. I took it to my local workshop. They topped up the fluid, did a service and checked for any leaks. Set me back about 365 Euro, but it was worth for the smooth ride ever since. If you haven't checked your transmission oil level yet, you might want to start there. Also, can you tell me more about the noise when it grinds and whines? Does it occur when you're accelerating or when idling? That'll help me to share more detailed insights. Keep me posted!
