Lexus RX Hybrid Owner Seeking Help for Engine Noise and Oil Pressure System Problems

Valve adjustment noise

Metal shavings in oil

Weird engine noise

Oil light on

Hey! I'm really baffled with an odd issue on my 2021 Lexus RX Hybrid. I'm hearing some weird valve adjustment noise and other strange engine sounds. The oil light's been constantly on, and upon checking, I found metal shavings in the oil, quite alarming. I'm suspecting it's something to do with the engine oil pressure system malfunctioning. Has anyone else ever encountered such a problem with their Lexus RX Hybrids? What was the diagnosis and solution in your case? Any troubleshooting insights or repair shop experiences shared would be greatly helpful. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had a much similar situation with my 2019 Lexus NX Hybrid, just a model down from your RX. I'm no pro, just have some experience fiddling around with my own vehicles. I also had a continuing oil light, weird noises, and the metal shavings you describe. My local garage diagnosed an oil pump defect in my case. Ended up costing me a hefty 755 Euro to have it replaced. Painful, but gotta do what you gotta do to keep your baby running smoothly, right? However, each case can be unique. You should definitely get your car familiarized with a trusted mechanic ASAP. Might be the same issue I had, or could be something else. Before I could give more concrete advice, could you let me know, are there any other symptoms? Any recent work done on the car? Any other changes you noticed before these problems started cropping up?

Hey! I appreciate the quick response. No significant additional symptoms besides what I've mentioned already. Just had a recent servicing done at 109410 KM, and everything seemed top notch then. It's strange how these things sneak up on ya, ain't it? I will definitely follow up on your suggestion and get a mechanic on this ASAP. Quite curious if it turns out to be an oil pump issue as you mentioned. Thanks for chiming in!

Hey back at ya! You're absolutely right, these things do have a sneaky way of coming up out of nowhere, especially right after a smooth service session, classic! But hey, since you just had your Lexus serviced recently, you might want to double-check the work done then. Perhaps something wasn't lined up as it should or maybe the oil change wasn't done right, which can start a domino effect causing all sorts of kooky symptoms. Of course, I'm just guessing here. It's still extremely important to get that professional opinion. The one thing I learned from my experience is that those metal shavings are a Gen-U-Wine red flag, don't let that slide! I'm crossing my fingers your issue isn't as much of a wallet-burner as mine turned out to be. Keep us posted on what you find out from your mechanic and feel free to shoot any more questions my way. Always happy to lend an ear and toss in my two cents. Good luck! I hope you and your RX get back on the smooth road real soon.

Hey, thanks a ton for all the guidance and sharing your similar experience. You've definitely given me some valuable points to ponder over. Gonna quickly investigate that recent service job, who knows, maybe the culprits are hiding there. Absolutely agree with you, those minuscule metal shavings are already giving me nightmares! Fair enough, will immediately take an appointment with my trusted mechanic to dig deeper into this mysterious affliction. I'll certainly update here once I have some news. Might end up being a valuable case study for someone out there! Thanks a million again for your help and those finger crosses! Praying it ain’t a great big hole in my pocket either, eh? Cheers, and happy motoring to you too!
