Brake light not working

Hey! I'm dealing with a weird issue on my 2008 Lexus LX Diesel. The ABS warning light is on and the brake light just won't work. I'm suspecting the brake light switch might be kaput, but I'm not 100% sure. Has anyone else run into similar situations? Would love to know how you pinpointed the problem and got it fixed. Grateful for any tips or workshop experiences you can share. Thanks!

Hey there! I've got some pretty modest car knowledge and had a similar problem with my 2010 Lexus LX a couple of years back. Turned out I was messing up the handbrake lever operation. Yep, seriously, just personal error! Cost nothing to fix, thankfully. But who knows, could be a different issue for you. Do check your handbrake operation though, just in case. Also, can you share your mileage? Other symptoms? It'll help give a clearer picture. Cheers!

Hey, thanks for the tip! I checked the handbrake lever operation, but it seems to be functioning fine, so I guess it's not about me messing things up (thank goodness, right?). My car's inching towards 37539 KM and apart from the ABS and brake light issues, she hasn't given me any other headaches. Fingers crossed it's an easy fix. Cheers!

Hey again! Cool that you've checked the handbrake, always good to rule out the simple things. Seeing your mileage, I doubt wear and tear could be causing this issue. In my '05 LX, I also had this issue around the 50000 KM mark. Turned out it really was the brake light switch causing both the ABS warning light and the brake light malfunction. My mechanic replaced it and everything went back to normal. But, before you go buying any parts, it could be a good idea to try adjusting your brake light switch. Sometimes the position just gets a little out of whack. If adjusting doesn't work, then it's quite possibly a defective switch. They're usually not too pricey if you gotta replace it. Anyway, just throwing in my two cents based on my past experience. Best of luck sorting it out!

Hey, that's super helpful advice! I reckon I'll try adjusting the brake light switch, see if it does the trick. If not, I'll get it replaced. Really appreciate you sharing your experience. I feel so much more equipped to sort out my ABS and brake light issues now. Cross your fingers for me, alright? Cheers!
