Lexus LC Hybrid Oil and Speedometer Warning Lights: Seeking Insights on Possible Engine Malfunction and Mechanic Recommendations

Hey there fellow car enthusiasts, I'm a bit concerned about my 2020 Lexus LC Hybrid, with just over 61k KMs on the clock. Recently, the oil light popped on, I found metal scrapings in the oil, and my speedometer warning light is also acting up. I'm leaning towards an engine oil pressure control malfunction but I'm not a hundred percent sure. After a sour experience with my last mechanic, I'm really anxious about it. Has anyone experienced something similar or have any thoughts on what could be going wrong? Also, I'm keen to hear about your experiences with your mechanics, trying to avoid another runaround. Appreciate any tips or advice!

Hey! I'm in solidarity with you, car issues are always a bummer, especially when they're under the hood. Ah, a 2020 Lexus LC Hybrid, nice ride! I had a similar concern with my 2017 Lexus RC F about a year ago. Just over 80K on the clock for mine. Starts up with the oil light just like yours. Speedometer warning light was a bit wonky too. Made me pretty nervous at first. The mechanic found metal shavings in the oil similar to what you're seeing. After diagnosing, it turned out the problem was a defective cable harness on the oil pressure control valve. The cable harness was oily and required a replacement. It wasn't as big of an issue as I initially feared, but still, quite an important one to address. Definitely sounds like your hunch of an oil pressure control malfunction might be right on the money. My advice is to find a good mechanic you trust and let them take a good look at it. Despite the inconvenience, it's better sorting it out sooner rather than later to avoid any further damage to that beaut of a car. Stay safe on those roads!

Hey there, Thanks for sharing your experience, really appreciate it! It's a relief to know it might not be as dire as I initially assumed. Our situations indeed mirror with the odd behaviour of the oil light and the metal shavings in the oil. I've got a couple of diligent mechanic friends who I've implicitly trusted for a while now. I'll bring my ride to their shop and see what they make of it. By the way, you mentioned you got your cable harness replaced. Can you recall what you had to shell out for that? And ever since you've got it fixed, did anything else creep up or has your Lexus been purring like a kitten? Cheers!

Hey there I absolutely get why you're curious. The engine oil pressure control problem from before has indeed been laid to rest, thank heavens. I gave up a total of 350€ to replace the rogue cable harness on the oil pressure control valve. It was all oiled up and faulty, which was throwing a wrench in the works. Since the repair, my Lexus has been smooth sailing! Haven't had to worry about a thing. Once you get your whip checked out, you'll probably notice the difference. Good luck getting everything sorted with your own ride! Stay safe, and keep us updated!

Hey! Appreciate your detailed response and reassurance! €350 doesn't sound too terrible for something that could potentially be wreaking havoc under the hood. Hearing your Lexus has been running smooth is definitely encouraging. Fingers crossed, I'm hoping this is all it comes down to for my ride as well. I'm taking my LC Hybrid in next Tuesday. Really hoping it's just the oiled-up cable harness as you pointed out. This community of car enthusiasts rock, truly grateful for your advice and support! I'll definitely keep you posted on what goes down. Cheers and safe driving!
