Land Rover Window Regulator: Real Fix Costs & Expert Tips

Power windows malfunction

Hey everyone! Having trouble with my 2020 Land Rover Discovery diesel (166K km). The power windows are acting up, sometimes they get stuck halfway or move really slowly. Pretty sure it's the window regulator but had a bad experience with my previous mechanic, so I'm hesitant about where to take it. Has anyone dealt with similar window issues on their Discovery? Would love to hear about repair costs and trusted mechanics' feedback. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Sport diesel (my previous car) last year. The window switch was giving me trouble, windows would either move super slow or get stuck mid-way, just like yours. Took it to the garage and they diagnosed a faulty window regulator module. They had to replace the entire power window regulator assembly on the driver's side. It wasn't a major repair in terms of car functionality, but it needed fixing since it's both a convenience and safety issue. The repair took about 2-3 hours. Make sure they test all windows thoroughly after the fix, as sometimes these issues can be related to the main control module rather than just the regulator. Based on my experience, I'd say don't put this off, moisture can get in and cause more problems if the window gets stuck open. Definitely get it checked by a certified Land Rover specialist. Hope this helps!

Thanks for sharing your experience! It sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. Would you mind letting me know how much the repair ended up costing you? Also curious if you've had any other window-related problems since getting it fixed? Really appreciate your help with this!

Hey again! Great news, I can actually give you a positive update! After getting it fixed at the mechanic, the window issues completely disappeared. The total bill came to 130.00 € for replacing the defective window switch, which honestly wasn't as bad as I'd expected for a Land Rover repair. Since the fix, all windows have been working perfectly smooth, no more of that annoying slow movement or getting stuck halfway. It's been over a year now, and I haven't had a single window-related problem. The repair was definitely worth every penny. Quick tip: once fixed, I make sure to regularly use all windows (at least monthly) to keep the mechanisms active. The mechanic mentioned this helps prevent future issues. Let me know if you end up getting yours fixed, would be interesting to hear if you experience the same smooth results!

Thanks so much for all the detailed info! I actually just got back from the mechanic today. Funny enough, my repair experience was pretty similar to yours! The mechanic found it was indeed the window regulator and switch combination causing the trouble. The whole thing was sorted in about two hours, they replaced both parts and did a thorough test of all windows. Cost me a bit more than yours though, around 175.00 € total, but I'm just glad it's fixed. The mechanic showed me the old parts, they were pretty worn out! Really appreciate your tip about regularly using all windows. I've already added a reminder in my phone to do this monthly. The windows are now working like new, smooth and quiet, no more getting stuck! Such a relief to have this sorted. Thanks again for helping me make the decision to get it fixed rather than putting it off. You definitely saved me from potential bigger problems down the road!
