Land Rover Discovery GPS Dead? Common Antenna Issues Fixed

No GPS connection

Hey everyone! My 2021 Land Rover Discovery diesel is having GPS connectivity issues, complete signal loss. I suspect it might be a faulty GPS antenna. Has anyone dealt with this problem before? Really want to know what your repair shop diagnosed and how they fixed it. What was the actual cause in your case? Thanks for any insights!

Hey there! I've got some experience with cars, and I had a really similar issue with my 2019 Land Rover Range Rover diesel last year. The symptoms were exactly the same, GPS would completely lose signal. After trying the usual stuff like software resets, I took it to my regular workshop. Turned out the GPS antenna was indeed defective and needed replacement. The whole thing, including labor, cost me around 200 Euro. The fix was pretty straightforward once they diagnosed it, and it's been working perfectly since then. Which trim level is your Discovery? Also, did you notice if this started happening suddenly or got worse over time? This info might help narrow down if we're dealing with the same exact issue.

Thanks! My Discovery is the SE trim. This issue started happening about 2 weeks ago, totally out of the blue. One day working fine, next day completely dead. I've had my latest service just last month at 100593 KM, and everything was perfect then. I actually tried resetting the system multiple times already, but no luck. Good to know about your antenna experience, that's exactly what I suspected. 200 Euro sounds way better than what I was imagining! Did you have to wait long for the part to arrive? Just trying to figure out how long I might be stuck using my phone for navigation. Really appreciate you sharing your experience! Looks like I'll be booking a workshop visit soon.

Hey again! I totally get your situation, that sudden GPS death is super frustrating. Mine actually died the same way, just stopped working overnight. At least with your recent service, you know it's not maintenance-related! About the part wait time, I got pretty lucky with mine. The workshop had the antenna in stock, so it only took about half a day for the whole repair. But I've heard from other Land Rover owners that it can take anywhere from 3 to 5 days if they need to order it. Quick tip while you're waiting, I found out that keeping the phone closer to the windscreen gives better GPS signal. I used a vent mount for those few days, worked much better than having it in the center console. One thing I forgot to mention in my first reply, after they replaced my antenna, they had to do some sort of system recalibration. Make sure your workshop includes that in the service. Mine skipped it initially and I had to go back because the signal was a bit spotty. Let me know how it goes when you get it fixed! Really curious if it's exactly the same issue as mine.

I'll continue as with a natural conclusion to the conversation: Thanks so much for all these details, especially that tip about the phone mount and the heads-up about the recalibration! Really helpful stuff. Just called my regular workshop and they've got an opening next Tuesday. Fortunately, they said they can get the antenna part in by then too, so looks like I won't have to wait too long. I'll definitely make sure to mention the recalibration thing to them. Would've totally forgotten about that, and I really don't fancy making two trips! Grabbed a vent mount on my way home today, and you're right, it's working much better for my phone GPS already. Really appreciate all your help with this. I'll update you once it's fixed, fingers crossed it's the same straightforward fix as yours was! Thanks again you've been super helpful!
