Land Rover Discovery Electrical Issues: Battery Mystery Help

Hey everyone! Having some serious electrical gremlins with my 2020 Land Rover Discovery Diesel (81200 km). The battery seems weak during start-up, lights are dimming, and I'm getting electrical fault warnings. Pretty sure it's related to the main power supply, specifically terminal 30. Had a not-so-great experience with my previous mechanic, so I'm wondering if anyone else has dealt with similar symptoms? What was the actual problem and how much did the repair cost you? Any recommendations would be much appreciated! Thanks

Hey there! I had very similar issues with my 2017 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Diesel last year at 95,000 km. The symptoms were identical, slow cranking, dimming lights, and electrical warnings. My case turned out to be more than just a weak battery. The alternator wasn't charging properly, and the main battery terminal connections had significant corrosion. Also found that the voltage regulator was faulty, which was causing inconsistent power supply to the electrical systems. The repair involved: Deep testing of the charging system, Replacing the alternator, Cleaning/replacing battery terminals, Installing a new voltage regulator, Battery load testing (battery itself was actually fine) It was a serious issue that needed immediate attention because it could've left me stranded anywhere. The alternator failure was progressively damaging other electrical components. I'd strongly suggest getting it checked by a certified Land Rover technician since these electrical issues can be quite complex in modern vehicles. Hope this helps!

Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful as it sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. I'm particularly concerned about the alternator situation you mentioned. Did you remember roughly how much the whole repair set you back? Also, curious if you've had any other electrical problems since getting it fixed?

Hey again! Great to hear back from you! Just wanted to give you a positive update since my last reply. Unlike my previous alternator issue, your symptoms sound more straightforward. I recently took my Range Rover Sport to a certified mechanic for the terminal 30 interruption problem I mentioned, and they identified it was actually just a battery issue. The total repair came to 290.00 €, much cheaper than my previous alternator drama! The best news is that since getting it fixed, I haven't had a single electrical problem. No more dimming lights, warning messages, or startup issues. The car's running like a dream now. It's such a relief when these things turn out to be simpler than expected, right? Just goes to show that not every electrical gremlin means a massive repair bill. If your symptoms are similar, hopefully you'll be as lucky as I was this time around! Let me know how you get on with yours. Always happy to share experiences with fellow Land Rover owners!

Thanks so much for the detailed follow-up! You've given me some hope that this might not be as bad as I feared. I actually just got back from the mechanic and wanted to share my experience. Turns out it was a combination of issues, my battery was indeed weak, but there was also significant corrosion on the terminals and a loose connection in the main wiring harness. The mechanic did a thorough electrical system check, cleaned everything up, replaced the battery, and secured all connections properly. The whole job cost me around 400 bucks, which honestly isn't too bad considering what I was imagining! The car's running perfectly now, no more dimming lights or warning messages. The startup is strong and immediate, just like when it was new. Really appreciate everyone's input on this. It definitely helped me better understand what I was dealing with and gave me the confidence to get it sorted quickly before it could become a bigger problem. Take care!
