Land Rover Defender Engine Mount Mystery Shakes Owner

Vibrations from the engine

Hey all! Got a bit concerned about my 2016 Land Rover Defender (diesel). I'm experiencing some pretty noticeable engine vibrations lately, and I suspect it might be a vacuum-controlled engine mount issue. Has anyone dealt with something similar? The car's got about 141,677 km on it. Last time I went to a mechanic, it wasn't the best experience, so I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences and recommendations for dealing with this kind of problem. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2019 Land Rover Discovery (diesel). The symptoms you're describing sound very familiar. Last month, I had my car at the garage because of excessive engine vibrations, especially when idling. Turned out the cable connector to the vacuum-controlled engine mount was completely worn out, and the mount itself wasn't functioning properly anymore. It was actually a serious issue that needed immediate attention because a faulty engine mount can lead to more severe problems with engine alignment and surrounding components. The mechanic replaced both the connector and the mount. Since then, the vibrations have completely disappeared, and the engine runs super smooth again. My advice? Don't postpone getting this checked out. A failing engine mount can cause additional damage if left unattended. Make sure they check both the vacuum lines and the electrical connections to the mount, as both can cause these symptoms.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! That's exactly what I needed to know. Sounds like I might be dealing with the same problem. Really glad to hear you got it sorted out. Quick question, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the fix? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the repair, or have you noticed any other quirks popping up?

Hey again! Happy to help out with your Defender issue! Yes, everything's been running like a dream since I got it fixed. The repair cost me 165 Euro, mainly for replacing that faulty cable connector to the engine mount. Honestly, it was money well spent because the difference is like night and day. No more annoying vibrations or shakes! It's been about a month now since the fix, and I haven't noticed any other issues popping up. The engine's running super smooth, especially at idle where those vibrations used to be really obvious. My mechanic mentioned catching it early probably prevented more expensive problems down the line. Trust me, once you get it sorted, you'll immediately notice the difference. The whole driving experience is just so much more comfortable now. Let me know how it goes when you get yours checked out!

Thanks so much for all this detailed info! Really puts my mind at ease about getting it fixed. That price doesn't sound too bad at all, especially considering how much worse it could get if left unchecked. Just got back from the mechanic actually, and you won't believe it, turned out to be almost exactly what you described! The vacuum line was worn out and the mount needed replacing. Total bill came to around 200 with parts and labor. Bit more than yours but still worth every penny. The difference is incredible! No more worrying vibrations, and the engine's running smoother than it has in ages. The mechanic I found was actually pretty great, really took the time to explain everything and even showed me the worn-out parts. Such a relief after my last bad experience with repairs. Thanks again for helping me out with this one. It's good to know I made the right call getting it checked out sooner rather than later!
