Land Rover Defender Audio & Nav Dead, Help Needed!

Navigationssystem is not working

Audio system is not working

Hi everyone! Having some frustrating issues with my 2022 Land Rover Defender (diesel, 131k km). The nav and audio systems completely stopped working, and I think it might be related to the speakerphone mic. Had a not-so-great experience with my last mechanic, so I'm hesitant to go back. Has anyone dealt with similar electrical issues in their Defender? Would love to hear about your experiences and if you can recommend what to look out for when getting it fixed. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I actually faced a similar problem with my 2011 Land Rover Discovery 4 diesel last year. The infotainment system completely died, no audio, no nav, nothing. My issue turned out to be a failed Control Unit Module, which also affected the Bluetooth and mic systems. Got it sorted at the garage after they diagnosed a short circuit that fried the main board. It was quite a serious fix since they had to replace the entire unit, not just repair parts of it. The mechanics mentioned these issues are somewhat common in Land Rovers from that era. Before you take it in, make sure they check: Main control unit connections, Wiring harness for any damage, Ground connections, Fuse box condition The whole repair took about 3 days because they had to order the part and reprogram the new unit to match the vehicle systems. Make sure whoever works on it has experience with Land Rover electrical systems, it's not something you want a general mechanic messing with. Hope this helps!

Thanks for sharing your experience! I'm actually getting quotes for my Defender's control unit repair right now. Quick question, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole fix? Also, has everything been working smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other electrical quirks? These Land Rover electronics can be quite temperamental!

Hey again! Yes, absolutely, happy to share the update! I had it fixed last month and it cost me 815€ for the whole infotainment system repair, including parts and labor. I must say it was worth every penny because everything's working perfectly now, including that annoying speakerphone mic issue that was driving me crazy! To be honest, since getting it properly sorted, my Discovery 4 hasn't shown any other electrical gremlins. The audio sounds crystal clear, navigation works like a charm, and the Bluetooth connection is stable, it's like having a new system installed! Just make sure whoever works on yours really knows their Land Rovers. These systems are quite complex and you'll want someone who's dealt with them before. I was nervous about spending that much at first, but seeing how well it's working now, I'd say it was a good investment. Let me know how yours turns out, always interested to hear about fellow Land Rover owners' experiences!

Thanks for all that detailed info! Just got back from the mechanic today and wanted to share my experience. Finally found a specialist who really knew their stuff. The whole ordeal was quite interesting, turned out my issue was indeed similar to yours, but with an extra twist. The control unit was fried, but they also found some water damage near the wiring that needed sorting. Ended up costing me a bit more than yours, but at least everything's working perfectly now! The nav system, audio, and that pesky speakerphone mic are all back to normal. The mechanic was great, really took the time to explain everything and even showed me what went wrong. Much better experience than my last garage visit! They also gave me some tips about preventing future issues, mainly keeping an eye on any water seepage around the electronics. Really appreciate everyone's help here. It's such a relief to have it all sorted properly. Now I can finally enjoy my drives without wrestling with a dead infotainment system!

Let our mechanics help you!
