Land Rover AC Failure: Specialist Help Needed
Air conditioning blows warm air

Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful to know it was the compressor in your case too. Sounds like I might be looking at the same issue. I'm definitely going to get it checked out soon, don't want to risk any more damage. Would you mind sharing how much the repair ended up costing you? Also, have you had any other AC-related problems since getting it fixed? Just trying to get an idea of what I might be in for. Cheers!
Hey again! Good news, I can give you a proper update now since I got it all sorted. The total bill came to 625.00 € for replacing the compressor and doing all the necessary work. They had to flush the system and replace the dryer too, just to be on the safe side. Honestly, while it wasn't cheap, it was worth every penny because the AC has been working perfectly ever since. I've had zero issues with the AC system since getting it fixed, it's actually blowing colder air than it did before! The compressor engages smoothly now, no more of that annoying cutting out problem. It's such a relief, especially since these LR AC systems can be pretty finicky. Just make sure whoever works on it knows their stuff with Land Rovers specifically. Mine did a thorough job, and it really shows in how well it's running now. Better to pay a bit more for someone who'll do it right the first time than have to deal with ongoing problems. Let me know how you get on with yours!
Just wanted to update everyone, got my car back from the mechanic today! What a relief to finally have it sorted. Found a specialist who really knew their stuff, and turns out everyone was right about the compressor. Mine was completely shot, just like your LR4 had been. The whole thing set me back about 700.00 €, a bit more than I hoped for, but they did a really thorough job. They checked the entire system, replaced the compressor, flushed everything out, and put in a new dryer. The mechanic showed me the old compressor, it was in pretty rough shape! Best part? The AC is now blowing ice-cold air again! It's actually working better than it has in years. The mechanic also gave me some good tips about maintaining the AC system to help prevent future issues. Thanks again for your advice, it really helped me know what to expect and not get caught off guard by the work needed. I'll definitely be keeping a closer ear out for any weird AC noises in the future!
Hi there! I had a similar issue with my 2010 Land Rover LR4 diesel last summer. The symptoms were exactly the same, AC suddenly started blowing warm air. Turned out my compressor was indeed failing, and the clutch wasn't engaging properly. I totally understand your concern about finding the right mechanic. From my experience, the compressor issue wasn't something to ignore. When I finally got it checked, they found the compressor was shot and needed replacing. Had to replace the dryer and flush the system too, since metal bits from the failing compressor had contaminated everything. It's a fairly common issue with these engines at higher mileage. In my case, it was a serious repair that took a couple of days to complete properly. Make sure whoever works on it uses genuine parts and knows how to properly evacuate and recharge the AC system. Better to get it sorted sooner rather than later, a failed compressor can cause bigger problems if metal debris gets into the AC system. Hope this helps!
