Key Fob Chaos: Vauxhall Adam Lock Mystery Needs Help

Locking/Unlocking issue

|

Key fob issues

Hey everyone, having some trouble with my 2015 Vauxhall Adam (1.4L petrol, 120k km) and could use some advice. My key fob's acting up, sometimes the central locking has a mind of its own, and I'm getting tired of playing the "will it lock/unlock" game. Had a not-so-great experience with my last mechanic, so I'm a bit hesitant about where to take it. Has anyone dealt with similar central locking issues on their Adam? Would love to hear about your experiences and any trusted mechanics you'd recommend. Thanks in advance!

I had a similar issue with my 2017 Vauxhall Corsa (1.4L petrol). The central locking was super unpredictable, sometimes working, sometimes not. Took it to my regular garage last month, turned out to be a faulty wire connection in the driver's door. The cable had worn out over time and was causing intermittent connection problems. Not a major repair job, but definitely something you want to get sorted soon. In my case, they had to replace the wiring harness in the door. The mechanic showed me where the original cable had started fraying, pretty common issue with these models after a few years of door opening/closing. Got it fixed at Thompson's Garage in Leeds, they specialize in Vauxhall repairs. Been running perfectly since then, no more unusual locking/unlocking issues.

Cheers for sharing that! That's really helpful info. Sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with, glad to hear it was just a wiring issue and nothing more serious. Been worried it might be something major. Would you mind sharing how much you paid for the repair? Also, has everything been working smoothly since, or have you noticed any other quirks popping up? Thinking of taking mine to Thompson's based on your recommendation. Thanks again!

Hey there! Yeah, happy to help update you on my Corsa situation. Since getting it fixed at Thompson's, the central locking has been working like a charm, not a single problem! It's such a relief not having to double-check if the car's actually locked anymore. The total bill came to 155.00 € for fixing that dodgy cable connection in the door. Money well spent if you ask me! The mechanic was spot on diagnosing it as a worn-out wire in the door harness. It's been about a month now since the repair, and honestly, everything's running perfectly smooth. No other weird issues have cropped up. If you're thinking about Thompson's, I'd say go for it. They really knew their stuff with Vauxhalls, and they took the time to show me exactly what was wrong. Plus, they sorted it out pretty quickly, I was in and out in no time. Let me know how you get on if you decide to take it there!

Thanks so much for all that detail! Actually, I took your advice and went to Thompson's yesterday. You were right about them being Vauxhall experts! Turns out my Adam had the same issue as your Corsa, worn-out wiring in the driver's door. They fixed it for about 160€, pretty close to what you paid. The mechanic was super helpful, showed me the frayed wires and everything. Really appreciated how they explained the whole thing without making me feel clueless about cars. Got it back today and the central locking's working perfectly now! No more awkward moments in the parking lot, pressing the key fob like a maniac! Really glad I asked here, saved me from stressing about it any longer. Thompson's is definitely my go-to garage from now on. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction. Problem sorted!
