JX Hybrid AC Issues: Solar Sensor or More Serious?

Air conditioning blows warm air

|

Insufficient Cooling/Heating

Hey all, my 2013 Infiniti JX Hybrid has been giving me AC troubles lately. The air comes out warm and the overall cooling/heating performance is poor. I suspect it might be related to the solar sensor inside the vehicle. Has anyone dealt with similar AC issues in their JX? I'd really appreciate hearing about your repair experiences and what the actual problem turned out to be. Looking for workshop solutions that worked for you.

Hey there! I had some experience with a similar AC issue on my 2015 Infiniti QX60 Hybrid (pretty much the successor to the JX). I have some experience working with cars, but I usually leave the complex stuff to the pros. The symptoms were exactly like yours weak AC performance and inconsistent temperature. Turned out it was a defective wiring harness that was messing with the climate control signals. Got it fixed at my local Infiniti dealer for about 155€. They had to replace the entire harness, but the AC's been working perfectly since then. Before jumping to conclusions though what's your mileage, and have you noticed any other electrical issues? This could help narrow down if you're dealing with the same problem I had.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My mileage is at 37630 KM and I just had my service done last month. I haven't noticed any other electrical problems, everything else seems to work fine. That's really interesting about the wiring harness I hadn't considered that could be the issue. Did you notice if your AC performance got worse gradually or did it just suddenly start acting up? I'm trying to figure out if I should take it to the dealer right away or if there might be simpler solutions to try first.

Hey again! Thanks for the follow-up about your JX. You know, with my QX60, it was definitely more of a gradual decline in AC performance I first noticed it getting a bit wonky during last summer's heat wave. It wasn't like one day it just stopped working properly. Since your mileage is pretty reasonable at 37630 KM and you're not seeing other electrical gremlins, I'm actually starting to think my initial suggestion about the wiring harness might not be your issue after all. In my case, I was seeing some weird behavior with the power windows too, which kind of pointed to the electrical system. Before you head to the dealer, maybe try something I wished I'd checked first make sure the cabin air filter isn't clogged up. I know it sounds basic, but these things can really mess with AC performance when they get gunked up. Also, since you just had service done, did they check the refrigerant levels? Sometimes a simple top-up can make a world of difference. But hey, if those simple checks don't pan out, then yeah, might be worth getting it looked at by the dealer. Just try to avoid my mistake of waiting too long I ended up suffering through some pretty uncomfortable drives before finally getting it sorted! Let me know what you find out, I'm curious if it turns out to be something completely different than what I experienced.

Thanks so much for all the detailed advice! You've really given me some good things to think about. You're right I should probably check those basics first before jumping to bigger conclusions. Come to think of it, I can't remember the last time I changed the cabin air filter, and I'm not sure if they checked the refrigerant during my last service. I'll definitely start there. I really appreciate you mentioning how your AC issues developed gradually too that helps put things in perspective because mine has been getting worse over time rather than failing suddenly. I'll check these simpler solutions first and if they don't work, I'll head to the dealer before it gets too uncomfortable like in your case. Will definitely update you once I figure out what's causing the problem. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience!
