Thanks for sharing your experience with the EGR valve repair. The symptoms you described match my situation perfectly. My check engine light finally turned off after the fix and the rough idle is completely gone. Could you share what the total repair cost was? My mechanic quoted me a price but I want to compare. Also, have you had any vacuum leaks or similar issues since the EGR valve was replaced? Just want to know what to watch out for in the future.

The total came to 355 Euro for the complete EGR valve repair on my Jeep Wrangler, which seems reasonable considering the extensive work required. The exhaust gas recirculation system is now working perfectly, with no vacuum leaks or other issues in the 15000km since the fix. The automotive repair resolved all the original problems, no more rough idle, restored power, and proper fuel consumption. The mechanic did a thorough job checking surrounding components while the system was apart, which likely prevented future complications. A properly functioning EGR valve is crucial for modern diesel engines. Since the repair, I monitor for any changes in engine performance or unusual sounds that might indicate developing vacuum leaks. Regular maintenance and keeping the engine clean helps prevent carbon buildup from recurring and causing similar issues. Glad to hear your repair resolved the symptoms. These systems typically remain trouble-free for many years after a proper fix, as long as regular service intervals are maintained.

After months of dealing with that frustrating rough idle and excessive smoke, I finally got the EGR valve fixed last week. The mechanic I found was really thorough, took the time to explain how carbon deposits had completely clogged the exhaust gas recirculation system. The catalytic converter was also affected but luckily didnt need replacement. Total bill came to 380 Euro for the EGR valve replacement, system cleaning, and diagnostic work. More than I hoped but worth every cent since the Jeep runs like new again. No more jerking or hissing during acceleration. The repair took about 6 hours. They cleaned the intake manifold while everything was apart and reset the engine management system. Just passed the emissions test yesterday with flying colors. Fuel consumption is back to normal too. Really glad I didnt wait longer, the mechanic showed me the old valve and it was completely shot. Could have caused some serious engine damage if left unfixed. Going to stay on top of maintenance from now on to prevent this from happening again.

Had similar symptoms on a 2013 Jeep Wrangler diesel. The rough idle and power loss were clear indicators of EGR valve issues. Vehicle emissions were severely affected, producing excessive smoke under load. The automotive repair involved removing and cleaning the EGR valve first, but it was too far gone, completely jammed with carbon deposits. The valve needed full replacement along with cleaning of the EGR passages. The intake manifold also required decarbonizing to prevent future issues. This was a serious repair job that impacted engine performance and vehicle emissions significantly. If left unfixed, it could have led to further engine damage and increased diesel engine wear. The complete repair included: EGR valve replacement, EGR cooler inspection, Intake manifold cleaning, Full diagnostic scan, Reset of engine management system The repair resolved all symptoms: restored proper power delivery, eliminated smoke, fixed the rough idle, and returned fuel consumption to normal. The check engine light cleared after the repair and system reset. Given your similar symptoms and mileage, these issues match classic EGR valve failure patterns on Jeep diesel engines. Would recommend getting it checked soon to prevent additional engine damage.
