Jaguar XJ Error Messages Need Urgent Pro Diagnosis

My 2000 Jaguar XJ keeps displaying error messages across multiple displays (infotainment and speedometer). The engine diagnostic light is also on. The car runs fine but these warnings are concerning. Has anyone dealt with similar fault codes in their XJ? The car has 58521 km and runs on gasoline. My previous mechanic experience wasnt great, so looking for recommendations on how to approach this. Should I get a diagnostic scanner to check the codes myself before heading to a repair shop?

Recently dealt with similar warning messages on my 2003 Jaguar S Type with the 4.2L V8. The multiple display errors often point to a communication issue between control modules rather than actual component failures. Using a scan tool is a smart first step. Standard OBD2 readers might only show basic fault codes, Jaguar vehicles typically need a more advanced diagnostic scanner to access all control modules and clear persistent error messages. At the garage, it turned out the battery voltage was dropping below optimal levels, causing communication errors between modules. This triggered multiple fault codes and warning lights including the check engine indicator. Even after replacing the battery, the codes needed proper reset and module reprogramming. The fix required: Full system diagnostic scan, Module communication test, Battery load testing, Control module reprogramming, Fault code reset across all systems While not mechanically serious, these electrical gremlins need proper diagnosis. Attempting DIY fault code reading is useful but expect to need dealer-level equipment for complete resolution. The age of these Jaguars makes them particularly sensitive to electrical system issues that trigger multiple warning messages. Going straight to a shop specializing in Jaguar engine diagnostics will likely save time compared to trying various fixes based on basic code readings.

Thanks for the detailed info about the electrical issues. Had almost identical problems with my XJ last winter. After seeing your solution, I wish I had checked the battery first instead of jumping straight to expensive diagnostics. Did you remember roughly what the full repair cost? My engine light saga ended up around 450€ at the specialist, but wondering if I overpaid. Also curious if youve had any recurring warning messages since the fix? The scan tool readings on these Jags can be pretty finicky even after repairs.

Had the work done last week actually and happy to report all warning messages have completely cleared up. The diagnostic scanner showed it was mainly a coding issue in the vehicle control modules that triggered those persistent fault codes. Total bill came to 360€ for the full reprogramming and system reset. The shop used professional diagnostic equipment to properly clear all modules, much more thorough than what basic scan tools can do. Since the fix, the engine light and error messages have stayed off. The communication between modules is now working perfectly. The 450€ you paid sounds reasonable for Jaguar diagnostics and repairs. These cars need specialized equipment to properly read and clear fault codes across all systems. Regular check engine scanners just cant access all the control modules these vehicles use. If you notice any warning lights return, definitely get it checked right away. But proper module coding usually resolves these issues permanently when done with the right diagnostic scanner equipment.

I followed up on the advice about the electrical issues and wanted to share my experience. Taking the car to a Jaguar specialist was definitely the right call. The malfunction indicator lights were all caused by a failing control module that was sending incorrect signals. The diagnostic scanner showed multiple fault codes, but the tech quickly identified the root cause. Total repair came to 520€ including: Full system diagnostic scan, Control module replacement, Complete system reprogramming, Final check engine light reset The specialist explained that attempting basic code reading myself would have just led to confusion since the real issue needed dealer-level equipment to diagnose. Their diagnostic scanner picked up communication problems between modules that a basic reader would have missed. Been driving for 2 weeks now without any warning messages or check engine lights. The speedometer and infotainment displays are working perfectly. Glad I went straight to someone with proper diagnostic tools rather than trying quick fixes first. The whole repair process took about 4 hours but solved all the electrical gremlins. Money well spent considering how many warning lights and errors it cleared up.
