Jaguar F Pace Power Steering Failure & Stiff Wheel Alert

Just noticed my steering wheel shakes badly and feels heavy to turn, plus getting error codes. The hydraulic fluid looks clean but steering feels really spongy, especially at low speeds. Power steering seems to be failing. Running a 2020 Jaguar F Pace Hybrid with 135999km. Has anyone dealt with similar steering system issues? Really want to avoid getting ripped off at the garage again. What should I check first and what repair costs should I expect?

Had the exact same symptoms on my 2017 Jaguar E Pace Hybrid last month. The steering wheel vibration and heavy steering pointed to issues with the steering system power assistance. Main issue turned out to be corroded electrical connections at the steering rack control module. The problem initially seemed like a hydraulic power steering failure, but diagnostic testing revealed an electrical fault in the power steering control unit. The repair involved: Complete system diagnostic scan, cleaning and resealing steering rack electrical connectors, Replacing damaged wiring harness segments, Recalibrating the power steering control module This was a serious repair requiring specialized diagnostic equipment. The steering rack itself was fine, but the electrical components controlling it had failed. If left unrepaired, it could have led to complete power steering failure and unsafe driving conditions. Worth checking basic items first: Power steering fluid level and condition, Wheel alignment settings, Steering column universal joints, Tire pressure and wear patterns Recommend getting it checked soon, as driving with compromised power steering can damage other steering components.

Thanks for sharing your experience. My F Pace had similar power steering issues that got fixed about 3 months ago. The repair shop also found corroded connections in the steering rack assembly which affected the electric power steering system. Just curious, what was your total repair cost? And has everything been working smoothly since the fix? I know these steering system repairs can sometimes reveal other underlying issues later on.

Since having the steering rack electrical connections repaired, the power steering function has worked perfectly with no further issues. The repair was actually quite straightforward once properly diagnosed, just 95€ to clean and fix the faulty cable connections at the control module. The electric steering system response is now smooth and consistent at all speeds. No more of that heavy steering feel or vibration through the wheel that was causing so much concern. The pressure hose and hydraulic fluid components were all checked during inspection but were found to be in good condition. A proper wheel alignment check was included in the diagnostic process to ensure the steering angle sensors were correctly calibrated after the repair. This comprehensive approach helped prevent any recurring issues with the power assistance system. Good to hear your F Pace got sorted with a similar fix. These electrical connection problems seem to be a known weak point in the steering systems of these models, but once properly addressed they tend to stay resolved.

After dealing with those steering issues on my F Pace, I finally took it to a trusted mechanic last week. The entire steering system diagnostic and repair came to 120€, which was a relief since I expected much worse. The mechanic found corroded wiring at the power steering control module, just like you mentioned. They cleaned the connections, replaced some damaged wires, and recalibrated the electric steering system. The steering pump and pressure hose looked fine, so no additional parts were needed. Now the steering feels perfect, no more vibration or heavy steering at low speeds. The whole repair took about 3 hours. Really glad I got it checked early before it could cause more damage. The error codes are gone and everything works like new.
