Issues with 2022 Renault Arkana Hybrid: Engine Light, Reduced Power, and Poor Fuel Economy - Potential Air Intake Sensor Problem?

Jerking on acceleration

Hey folks, my 2022 Renault Arkana Hybrid has been acting a bit funky lately. The check engine light popped on and I noticed some loss of engine power and it's pretty unsteady. It's also jerking when I try to accelerate and the fuel economy isn't great. I'm thinking it could be an issue with the intake air temperature sensor sending a faulty signal, but I could use some advice. Has anyone else had this issue and if so, how did your mechanic fix it? Did you see any improvement afterward? Any insight would be hugely appreciated.

Hey, I've got some experience with a similar problem. Owned a 2020 Renault Kadjar in the past. Not an expert, just a guy who knows bits and pieces about cars from my own experiences. Had a similar issue with the intake air temperature sensor being defective. The rough driving and lousy fuel economy was a huge pain. I took my car to my local mechanic. He diagnosed and replaced the faulty sensor which cost me around 155 euro. Post-repair, there was a noticeable improvement in performance and fuel economy. I recommend getting it checked as soon as possible. It would be helpful if you could provide more specifics like any error codes you're getting from the car, as every bit can lead to a more precise solution. Hang in there.

Thanks for the quick response! It's reassuring to hear you had a similar issue and got it sorted. I just peeked at my OBD reader and it's throwing out a P0113 code, which definitely seems to support my initial thoughts about the air temperature sensor. I'll get it checked down at my local garage soon. Also, thought I'd mention, I am sitting at 189,627 km on my lovely Arkana and took care of her latest service at 180,000 km, and everything was in tip-top shape then. I'm crossing my fingers it's just the sensor acting up and nothing major. Appreciate your help!

Hey there again! You're definitely headed in the right direction. The P0113 code is related to a high input problem with the intake air temperature sensor circuit. This could be causing your issue for sure. Given your mileage, it's pretty normal that some sensors start throwing tantrums. These sensors are often exposed to harsh conditions so they do wear out with time. Even if your last service was at 180K and everything was tip-top, these things can still occur. Having it replaced should certainly improve the situation, just as it did for my Kadjar. Don't stress too much about it, most likely it's nothing too serious. Cars, they give us joy and grey hair at the same time, eh? Good luck with the fix!

Absolutely! They definitely are a double-edged sword - bringing both joy and stress. You've been a great help and I'm feeling a lot less anxious about the situation now. I'll be booking an appointment first thing tomorrow morning. Hope everything goes as smoothly as it did with your Kadjar. I'll keep you updated. Thanks again for the advice, have a good one!
