Irregular shifting and warning light on the 2018 VW Golf: suspected malfunction of the transmission oil pressure sensor

Hey guys, I have a problem with my 2018 VW Golf gasoline (has 35,800 km on the odometer so far) and I'm really worried. My gearbox is slipping and shifting erratically, I hear a grinding noise when I change gears and the warning light in the speedo comes on. I suspect it could be a malfunction of the transmission oil pressure sensor. Has anyone had similar experiences and can give me any advice on what was done on their last repair? I'm really worried as I had a bad experience at the last mechanic visit. Thanks in advance!

Hey, had something similar with my 2015 VW Passat. My gears were also slipping and a warning light had come on. Turned out there was a significant problem with the gearbox. The mechanics had to remove it, completely overhaul it as a few internal parts were broken. My transmission oil pressure sensor also had to be replaced. So get it checked in a workshop immediately, it could be really serious. Hope this helps you and keep your fingers crossed that it's nothing serious. Best regards!

Hey, thanks for the quick reply and the helpful info. Sounds like you've been in the same situation before. Can I ask how much it cost you to overhaul the gearbox and change the sensor? And have you had any other problems with the car since then? I really hope it's not that serious, but your experience sounds really worrying. Thanks and best regards!

Hey, no problem, happy to help. After the visit to the workshop, the problem with the transmission oil pressure sensor was fixed. It cost me around 365 euros, as the transmission oil level was too low and therefore had to be corrected. But since then, everything has been running smoothly and there were no further problems after the repair. So don't worry too much, it may well be "just" that in your case. Keep your fingers crossed! Best regards!

Hey, thank you very much for your detailed reply. That reassures me a little, even if the repair costs are a shock at first. But it's good to know that your car will run smoothly again after the repair. I'm a bit more relaxed now and will be on my way to the garage tomorrow. Keep your fingers crossed that it can be fixed quickly and without any major problems. Thanks again for your advice and take good care of yourself! Best regards!
