Hey, thanks for your quick reply. So it looks like it really could be the transmission control unit. Do you remember what you had to pay for the repair? And what's happened since then? Are there any more problems or is everything running smoothly now? I hope it was just the one problem. It would be really great if you could tell me a bit more about it!

Hey, no problem, always happy to help! So, I paid around €1000 for the repair of the gearbox control unit. Pretty hefty, I know, but since then it's been running smoothly again. Since the visit to the mechanic, the malfunction of the transmission control unit has been rectified and there have been no further problems. The car is running smoothly again. So, if you notice similar symptoms, I would definitely recommend getting it checked as soon as possible. Better safe than sorry, right?

It's definitely reassuring to hear that your car is now running perfectly again. Yes, €1000 sounds really steep, but if it fixes the problem, it's probably worth it. I'll take your advice and get it sorted as soon as possible. Let's see what the mechanic says. I really hope it stays with the transmission control unit and nothing else is broken. Thanks again for your help and advice!

Hi, I recently had a similar problem with my 2011 BMW 3 Series. My runabout had problems with the gearshift and it sounded like metal grinding on metal, similar to yours. And you're right, it was quite disconcerting. At my last workshop visit they eventually determined it was the transmission control unit, it was no longer working properly and had to be replaced. It was quite a big job but fortunately not a serious problem. Hope this helps you move on. Be sure to check it out!
