Transmission slips/shifts erratically

Hi guys, I'm a bit worried. My 2006 Ford Freestyle, gasoline engine with a good 123,800 km, is acting up. It recently had problems with the transmission oil pressure. Symptoms are irregular gear changes, grinding noises when changing gear, plus constant whining or grinding. I recently went to a mechanic, but I didn't have a good experience. Has anyone ever had similar problems with their car? I look forward to hearing about your experiences and how they went with your mechanic! Thanks in advance.

Hello, I recently had a similar problem with my 2009 Ford Galaxy. It showed similar symptoms - irregular shifting, grinding noises and constant whining. I took the car straight to the garage. There it turned out that the transmission control unit was defective. It's not exactly a minor defect, this unit controls the entire transmission operation. They just needed to replace the whole thing. Specifically, it was sending signals that led to these irregular and uncoordinated gear changes, hence all these symptoms. The repair was a bit time-consuming and took a few days. But afterwards it was as good as new, all the problems were gone. So get your car checked out properly, maybe it's the same with you. Good luck!

Hey, thanks for the insight! That's put my mind at ease a bit. Can you remember what you paid for the repair? Has anything else come up since then or has your car been running smoothly ever since? I'd be really interested to know. Thank you!

Hey, glad I could help! Yes, the repair of the transmission control unit cost me €1000, not exactly a penny, but after that the car ran like clockwork again. And since my visit to the mechanic, the gearbox oil pressure fault has been rectified and there have been no further problems. No grinding, whining or other stuff! So my car has really been running smoothly ever since. I can only recommend that you have your car checked properly. I hope it helps you!

You've honestly helped me a lot, thank you for that! It will cost me a bit, but if my car runs like it did on the first day, it's worth the money. I'll probably go to another garage and have my car checked. Thanks again for the info and your advice, really! Bye and have a good trip!
