Infiniti Q: Multiple Engine Issues Throttle Trouble?

Loss of engine power

Check engine light on

Poor fuel economy

Jerking on acceleration

Engine shuts off by itself

Unsteady engine

Hey everyone, I've got a 2003 Infiniti Q acting up with multiple issues engine cutting out, power loss, jerking during acceleration, and poor MPG. CEL is also on. I suspect it might be the throttle valve, but wanted to hear from anyone who's dealt with similar symptoms. Has anyone had this fixed? What did your mechanic end up replacing and how much did it cost? Any input appreciated.

Hey there! I had a pretty similar situation with my 2005 Infiniti G35 last year (I've got some experience working on cars, but I'm no expert). The symptoms you're describing sound exactly like what I dealt with. Mine started acting up the same way jerky acceleration, unusual power loss, and terrible fuel economy. Took it to my regular workshop, and after diagnostics, they found it was a faulty accelerator pedal module. Got it replaced for about 205 Euro, and it fixed all those issues completely. The repair was pretty straightforward, took them about an hour. What's your exact model and mileage? Also, are you getting any specific error codes? That would help confirm if we're dealing with the same problem. Would be good to know if your Check Engine Light shows any throttle-related codes.

Thanks for sharing that experience! I've got exactly 86474 KM on mine, and just started experiencing these issues recently. Haven't pulled the codes yet, but planning to get that done this weekend. Really hoping it's just the accelerator pedal module like in your case that repair cost sounds way better than what I was imagining with the throttle valve. Got any recommendations for reliable diagnostic tools I could use?

Hey again! I've been in your exact situation, and I totally get the concern. Just to add to what I shared before about my G35 experience I actually started with a basic OBD2 scanner (got mine from Amazon for like 30 bucks) to pull the codes myself before heading to the shop. Really helped me know what I was dealing with. For diagnostic tools, I've had good luck with the BlueDriver it's a bit pricier than basic scanners (around 100 Euro) but works great with Infinitis. Though honestly, any basic OBD2 reader should give you the initial codes you need. One thing I forgot to mention in my first reply before replacing the accelerator pedal module on my G35, I actually tried cleaning the throttle body first (cost me like 15 Euro for the cleaner). Didn't solve my problem completely, but might be worth a shot before jumping into bigger repairs. Just make sure you get the right cleaner and follow a good tutorial if you try this. Keep us posted on those codes when you get them! Really curious to see if it's the same issue I had with mine. These G35s are great cars but they do have their quirks at this age.

Thanks a ton for all that detailed info! Just ordered a BlueDriver scanner based on your recommendation figured it's worth investing in a good one since I'm planning to keep this car for a while. Really appreciate the tip about the throttle body cleaning too might give that a shot while I wait for the scanner to arrive. It's such a relief to hear from someone who's been through the same thing and got it sorted without breaking the bank. I'll definitely update this thread once I get those codes pulled this weekend. These older Infinitis are awesome cars when they're running right just gotta figure out their little quirks like you said!
