Infiniti Q's Mystery Alarm: Battery or Security Glitch?

Weak battery when starting the engine

|

Alarm system malfunctions

Hey everyone, my 2014 Infiniti Q (diesel) with 155K km is giving me headaches lately. The alarm keeps acting up unusually, and I'm having trouble starting the car seems like the battery is struggling. Had a not-so-great experience with my last mechanic, so I'm a bit hesitant about where to take it. Has anyone dealt with similar anti-theft system issues in their Infiniti? Would love to hear about your experiences and maybe get some recommendations for trustworthy mechanics who know their way around these systems. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I actually faced a similar issue with my 2017 Infiniti QX70 diesel last winter. The alarm system was going haywire, and it turned out to be more than just a battery problem, though that's usually the first thing to check. Took it to my regular garage, and they found that the alarm control module needed reprogramming, plus there was a fault in one of the door sensors. The door sensor was triggering false alarms and messing with the central locking system. What made it tricky was that these issues can drain your battery pretty quick, which then causes a chain reaction of problems. It wasn't a major repair job, but it definitely needed someone who knows Infiniti's security systems. The mechanic had to use specific diagnostic equipment to properly reset and code the alarm system. Once fixed, it's been working perfectly since then. Make sure whoever looks at it has experience with Infiniti's security systems it's not something you want a general mechanic guessing at. Hope this helps!

Thanks for sharing your experience! Really helpful to hear from someone who's been through something similar. Can I ask how much the whole repair job set you back? And has everything stayed working properly since then, or have you run into any other quirks with the system?

Hey again! Happy to give you an update! Since my last post, I actually took your advice and went to a specialized Infiniti mechanic. Best decision ever! The total bill came to 450€, which included the reprogramming of the alarm control module and fixing that pesky door sensor. It's been running like a dream since then no more unusual alarms or starting issues. They specifically fixed the optical locking coding that was causing all the drama. You know how frustrating those false alarms can be, right? But now when I lock the car, the lights flash exactly as they should, and the system works perfectly. I tell you what, it's such a relief not having to worry about my car throwing a tantrum in the middle of the night anymore! And considering the headaches it was causing, I'd say it was money well spent. The battery's holding up great too since there's no more unnecessary drain on it. Let me know if you need the contact details of my mechanic. They really know their stuff when it comes to Infiniti's security systems!

Thanks so much for all the details! I finally got mine fixed yesterday, and what a journey it's been! Went to the mechanic you recommended (thanks for that contact, by the way), and turns out my issue was pretty similar to yours. Had a faulty door sensor and some electrical gremlins that were draining the battery. The whole thing cost me around 500€, a bit more than yours because they had to replace the sensor completely. The best part? No more unusual alarms going off in the middle of the night my neighbors must be thrilled! The car starts up perfectly now, and the security system is working just as it should. Such a relief to have this sorted finally. Really appreciate everyone's help here. Nothing beats getting advice from people who've dealt with the same issues. Time to enjoy my properly functioning car again!
