Thanks Tom! You might be onto something there with the swirl flap. I'm at 95377 KM and just had my last service done in March. The symptoms started showing up pretty recently, and they're getting progressively worse. I'll definitely get it checked out ASAP don't wanna risk any engine damage. Did the fix solve all your issues completely? And how long did the repair take at your workshop? Cheers, Mike
Hey Mike, Yeah the repair totally fixed everything on my Infiniti M all those annoying symptoms disappeared completely. The swirl flap issue is pretty common on these diesel engines, so I wasn't too surprised when it happened to mine. The actual repair took my workshop about a day dropped it off in the morning and picked it up the next afternoon. They wanted to be thorough and check for any potential damage the broken flap might have caused. Thankfully, there wasn't any in my case since I caught it early. Just to put your mind at ease after the repair, my car's been running like new for the past 18 months. No more check engine light, the power's back to normal, and that annoying hissing and shaking are gone. Your mileage is actually pretty similar to when mine started acting up (I was at around 98,000 KM). One tip though when they do the repair, ask them to check the EGR valve while they're at it. Sometimes these issues can be related, and it's better to catch any potential problems while they're already working in that area. Keep us posted on how it goes with your Infiniti! Cheers, Tom
Thanks so much Tom for all the detailed info! That's really helpful and gives me some peace of mind about getting it fixed. Good tip about checking the EGR valve too I'll definitely mention that when I take it in. I've already called my usual workshop and booked it in for next Tuesday morning. It's reassuring to hear that the fix sorted out all your issues completely. The symptoms are so similar that I'm pretty confident now that's what I'm dealing with too. Will post an update here once I get it back from the shop and let everyone know how it went. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience! Mike
Hey Mike, I had a similar issue with my 2012 Infiniti M. I have some experience working on cars, though I mostly rely on trusted mechanics for complex issues. Your symptoms sound exactly like what I dealt with it was indeed a broken swirl flap in my case. My trusted workshop diagnosed it and replaced the entire intake manifold assembly since the broken flap could've caused internal engine damage if left unfixed. The whole thing, including labor, set me back about 865€. Can you share more details about your car like the mileage and whether you've had any other recent engine work done? This could help determine if you're dealing with the same issue. Just don't drive it too much in this condition to prevent potential engine damage. Cheers, Tom
