Infiniti M Engine Troubles: Multiple System Failures

Poor fuel economy

Unsteady engine

Engine shuts off by itself

Check engine light on

Loss of engine power

Jerking on acceleration

Hey everyone! Need help with my 2009 Infiniti M having multiple issues. The engine unusually shuts down, loses power, runs rough, and jerks during acceleration. Poor fuel consumption too. Check engine light is on. I suspect it might be the throttle position sensor, but I'm not 100% sure. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? What was the fix in your case and how much did the repair cost? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hey there! I had a somewhat similar issue with my 2007 Infiniti G35 last year. I have some experience working on cars, but I mainly trust my regular workshop for complex issues. My car was showing similar symptoms rough running, jerking during acceleration, and the engine would sometimes cut out. Turned out it was indeed the throttle body the internal mechanics were shot. Got it fixed at my trusted mechanic for about 345 Euro, and the car's been running smoothly since then. Could you share more details about when these issues started and if you've noticed any specific patterns (like does it happen more when the engine is cold or hot)? Also, have you pulled the diagnostic codes from the check engine light? This would help narrow down the problem better. In the meantime, I'd avoid pushing the car too hard until you get it checked out. These symptoms can sometimes lead to bigger issues if left unchecked.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Mine's showing the exact same symptoms you described. The issues started about 2 weeks ago, and yeah, it's definitely worse when the engine is cold, especially in the mornings. Haven't pulled the codes yet, but planning to do that this weekend. My last service was just 3 months ago at 66,782 KM, and everything was fine then. The throttle body repair cost you mentioned sounds reasonable I was worried it might be way more expensive. I'll get it checked at my local shop before it gets worse. Thanks for the heads up about not pushing it too hard!

Hey again! Yeah, that timing sounds very similar to what I experienced with my G35. When you mentioned it's worse in the mornings, that's exactly how mine was acting up too. The cold starts were particularly rough it would stumble and sometimes even stall before getting up to operating temperature. Just to update you from my previous experience after getting the throttle body replaced, I also ended up having to clean the Mass Air Flow sensor (MAF) about a month later because some similar symptoms started creeping back. It was a super cheap fix, just used a proper MAF cleaner spray that cost like 10 Euro. Might be worth checking that too while you're at it. These Infinitis are generally solid cars, but the throttle bodies can be a weak point, especially around the mileage you're at. Based on what you're describing, it really does sound identical to what I went through. Once I got both issues sorted, my fuel economy went back to normal and all the jerking/stalling completely disappeared. Let us know what the codes show up when you scan it this weekend. If you need any specific tips about the repair, feel free to ask I've kept all the documentation from my repair just in case!

Thanks so much for the detailed follow-up! That's really helpful about the MAF sensor too I'll definitely keep that in mind. It's actually reassuring to hear that your symptoms were so similar and that the fix wasn't too complicated. I've just called my local shop and they can check it out this Tuesday morning. I'll definitely scan those codes this weekend and will probably pick up a MAF cleaner while I'm at the auto parts store might as well be prepared! I really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and offering additional help. It's made me feel a lot better about the whole situation. I'll update this thread once I know exactly what's going on with my car!
