Infiniti M's Transmission Woes: Expert Help Needed

Whining or grinding noises

Transmission slips/shifts erratically

Grinding noise when shifting gears

Hey! Got a concerning issue with my 2010 Infiniti M (diesel, 126k km). My transmission's acting up lately rough shifts, weird noises when changing gears, and this constant whining sound. Had a not-so-great experience with my previous mechanic, so I'm pretty anxious about where to take it. Anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Thinking it might be transmission pressure related. Looking for recommendations on reliable mechanics who've fixed similar issues and what kind of costs I might be looking at. Thanks in advance for any help!

Hey there, I had very similar symptoms with my 2013 Infiniti QX70 diesel last summer. The rough shifting and whining noise turned out to be low transmission fluid level in my case. There was a small leak from one of the transmission cooler lines that was slowly draining the fluid. Took it to my trusted mechanic who did a thorough inspection. He found the leak, replaced the faulty line, and did a transmission fluid flush and refill. It was definitely a serious issue that needed immediate attention running low on transmission fluid can cause major damage if left unchecked. Since the fix, my transmission's been shifting smoothly with no more whining sounds. I'd suggest getting it checked soon to prevent any potential transmission damage. Look for a shop that specializes in Infiniti or at least luxury vehicles. Best of luck!

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! That sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. This is super helpful. Quick question do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole job? Also, has everything been running smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other transmission issues pop up? Thanks again!

Hey again! Glad I could help! Yes, everything has been running perfectly smooth since I got it fixed. The total bill came to 365€ it included fixing both the transmission oil pressure issue and getting the oil level back to where it should be. Honestly, considering how much a full transmission replacement would've cost, I feel like I dodged a bullet there! My QX70 has been shifting like a dream ever since no more weird noises or rough shifts. It's been about 8 months now, and I haven't had a single transmission-related issue pop up. The mechanic told me it was pretty lucky we caught it when we did, as running with low transmission fluid could've caused some serious damage. If your symptoms are similar to what I experienced, definitely get it checked out soon. The peace of mind is totally worth it, and it's way cheaper than waiting until something major goes wrong. Let me know how it goes! Take care!

Thanks so much for all the details! You were absolutely right I took your advice and got it checked out yesterday. Turns out it was also a transmission fluid issue, but in my case, it was a bit more complicated. Had a cracked transmission pan that was causing the leak. The total repair came to about 475€ a bit more than yours but still way better than a full transmission replacement! The mechanic I found was great, really took the time to explain everything. Fixed the pan, did a complete fluid flush, and even caught a couple of minor issues I didn't know about. Just drove it today and wow, what a difference! No more whining, shifts are butter smooth, and that awful grinding noise is completely gone. Really glad I didn't wait any longer to get it fixed. Thanks again for sharing your experience it really helped me make the decision to get it checked out right away. You definitely saved me from what could've been a much bigger headache! Take care!
