Infiniti JX Warning Light: Brake Fluid or Something Else?

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Hey everyone, my 2013 Infiniti JX Hybrid (192,844 km) has been showing a warning light on the dashboard. I suspect it might be related to low brake fluid, but after a recent disappointing experience with my mechanic, I'm hesitant to go back. Has anyone dealt with a similar issue on their JX? Would love to hear about your experiences and maybe get some recommendations for reliable mechanics who know their way around Infiniti hybrids. Thanks!

Hey there! I faced a similar situation with my 2016 Infiniti QX60 Hybrid last year at around 180,000 km. That warning light showed up, and like you, I initially thought it was just low brake fluid. When I took it to the garage, it turned out the brake pads were completely worn out, and the rotors had developed deep grooves. The mechanic showed me how the brake pad sensors were triggered because they were down to the metal. It was definitely a serious safety issue that needed immediate attention. The hybrid system's regenerative braking had masked some of the usual signs of wear, which is pretty common in hybrid vehicles. They had to replace both front and rear brake pads, resurface the rotors, and flush the brake fluid system. I'd really recommend finding a certified Infiniti specialist who understands hybrid systems the regenerative braking setup is different from regular cars. After my experience, I wouldn't risk taking it to a general mechanic who might miss the hybrid-specific components. Hope this helps with your decision!

Hey, thanks so much for sharing that! It's super helpful to hear from someone who's been through something similar. I'm curious do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for all that work? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the repair, or have you noticed any other issues pop up? Just trying to get an idea of what I might be looking at cost-wise and whether I should be prepared for any follow-up problems.

Hey again! After seeing that warning light on my QX60 Hybrid last year, I can totally tell you how it all worked out. The whole repair job came to 480€, which covered fixing the worn-out brakes and topping up the brake fluid that was running low. I know it might sound a bit steep, but honestly, it was worth every penny for the peace of mind. Since getting it fixed, my car's been running like a dream no more warning lights or brake issues whatsoever! Just make sure you find someone who really knows their way around Infiniti hybrids. Like I mentioned before, these cars have that special regenerative braking system that needs proper understanding. Pro tip: once you get it sorted, keep an eye on your brake fluid levels during regular maintenance. It helps catch any potential issues early on. But honestly, I haven't had a single problem since that repair job, and I'm still driving it daily with no complaints! Let me know if you need any other info happy to help!

Thanks so much for all the details! I actually just got back from seeing a certified Infiniti specialist yesterday. You were spot on about finding someone who knows these hybrids! Turns out my issue was pretty similar to yours worn brake pads and low fluid. Ended up paying about 520€, a bit more than what you paid, but they also found and fixed a small leak in the brake line that was causing the fluid loss. The mechanic took the time to show me everything and explain how the hybrid braking system works, which was really helpful. Even gave me some maintenance tips to avoid future issues. Car's running great now that annoying warning light is finally gone! Really appreciate you sharing your experience. It definitely helped me make the right decision instead of putting it off or going to my usual mechanic who isn't familiar with hybrids. Feels good to have this sorted with someone who knows what they're doing! Thanks again for all your help!
