Infiniti FX Random Alarm Issues: Backup Battery to Blame?

Hey everyone, having issues with my 2011 Infiniti FX Diesel. The alarm system's acting up unusually and I suspect it might be the backup battery in the anti-theft system. Has anyone dealt with similar alarm problems? Looking to hear how your workshop diagnosed and fixed it, and what the repair process was like. Any insights would be appreciated!

Hey there! I've got some experience working on cars , and I actually had a similar issue with my 2013 Infiniti EX Diesel last year. The alarm was going crazy, and it turned out the battery was just too old and couldn't hold a charge anymore. Took it to my local workshop, and they diagnosed it pretty quickly. The whole thing, including parts and labor, set me back about 330 Euro, but it was worth it no more unusual alarms going off! Which trim level is your FX? Also, how long have you had these alarm issues? Might help me give you more specific advice based on what worked for me.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Mine's been acting up for about 2 weeks now. I've got the premium trim level. The car's at 87911 KM and just had its service last month, but this issue started after a particularly rainy week. Your repair cost sounds reasonable I was worried it might be something more serious. Did your mechanic have to reprogram anything after replacing the battery, or was it just a straight swap?

Hey again! Yeah, for my EX Diesel, it was pretty straightforward actually. The mechanic just swapped out the old backup battery no reprogramming needed. But that's interesting that yours started after a rainy week... When I think about it, moisture might be your culprit here. In my case, it was just the battery being old, but given your timing with the rain, you might want to have them check for any moisture getting into the alarm system components. My mechanic actually mentioned that water ingress can cause similar symptoms. The premium trim on these cars has a bit more complex alarm system than the base model (I've got the premium too), but the core components are pretty much the same. Since you just had service done, maybe get them to check if anything got disturbed during the service that could've created a pathway for water to get in? The 87k km mark is about where mine started acting up too. It's not a bad idea to get the backup battery replaced anyway since it's probably original. Better than having it wake up the whole neighborhood at 3 AM like mine did! Let me know what you find out I'm curious if it turns out to be the same issue as mine or if the rain caused something else.

That's super helpful, thanks! You're right about the 3 AM wake-up calls my neighbors aren't too happy about that either! I'll definitely get the workshop to check for moisture issues since you mentioned it. Makes total sense given the timing with the rain. I've just booked it in for next Tuesday, and I'll make sure to mention both the backup battery and potential water ingress to the mechanic. Really relieved to hear it might be something relatively simple to fix. Thanks again for sharing your experience it's given me a much better idea of what to expect. I'll update you once I get it sorted!
