Infiniti EX: Power Steering & ABS Failure Mystery

Power steering without function

ABS/DSC system is not working

Vibrating/shaking steering wheel

Hey everyone, I'm having some concerning issues with my '07 Infiniti EX (97.8K km). My steering wheel's been shaking quite a bit, and I've lost both power steering and ABS/DSC functionality. I suspect it might be the steering angle sensor acting up. Had some previous bad experiences with mechanics, so I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who's dealt with similar symptoms. What was your diagnosis and repair experience like? Thanks in advance!

I had a similar issue with my '10 Infiniti FX35 last year. The symptoms matched yours exactly shaky steering wheel and drop in power steering and stability systems. When I took it to the garage, their diagnostic scan showed the steering angle sensor was incorrectly coded after some previous work was done. The sensor itself was fine, but it needed proper calibration and coding to communicate correctly with the car's computer systems. It wasn't a major mechanical problem, just needed the right diagnostic equipment to reset and recalibrate the sensor. The fix took about an hour at the shop. Since then, everything's been working perfectly no more shaking or warning lights. Just make sure you find a shop that's familiar with Infiniti systems and has the proper diagnostic tools. This isn't something you want a general mechanic guessing at.

Thanks for sharing that really helpful! I'm going through the exact same nightmare with my EX right now. Just curious, do you remember roughly what they charged you for the recalibration? And has everything stayed running smooth since the fix, or have you run into any other steering issues?

Hey again! Happy to give you an update on my FX35 situation. After seeing the mechanic, it cost me 195€ to fix the coding issue with the steering angle sensor. Honestly, it was money well spent the car's been running like a dream since then. No more shaking, all systems working perfectly, and the steering feels as smooth as butter. It's been over a year now since I had it fixed, and I haven't had a single steering-related problem pop up. The mechanic really knew their stuff with Infiniti's systems, and getting that sensor properly coded made all the difference. The transformation was like night and day! I know it's annoying when these things happen, but at least it wasn't some major mechanical failure. Just needed that correct calibration to get everything talking properly again. If your symptoms are matching what I had, you're probably looking at a similar fix. Hope this helps give you a better idea of what you might be dealing with!

Thanks so much for all the details! I actually just got back from the mechanic today, and you were spot on. Took it to an Infiniti specialist, and they found the same issue the steering angle sensor needed recoding. Cost me about 180€, pretty close to what you paid. The difference is incredible! No more shaking, power steering's back to normal, and all those warning lights are finally gone. The whole thing took less than two hours, and I'm kicking myself for not doing it sooner. Was definitely stressing over nothing! Really appreciate you sharing your experience helped me feel much more confident about getting it fixed. My EX is driving like new again, and I couldn't be happier. Guess sometimes it's just about finding the right mechanic who knows what they're doing with these cars. Thanks again for all your help! Time to enjoy my smooth-driving Infiniti again!
