Infiniti EX Massage Seat Malfunction: Fix Needed

Massage seat without function

Hi everyone, my 2011 Infiniti EX diesel has an issue with the massage seat function it's completely stopped working. I suspect the massage seat switch might be faulty, but I'd like to confirm before replacing it. Has anyone dealt with this problem? I'm particularly interested in hearing what the actual fix was and how much it cost at the workshop. Any tips or similar experiences would be really helpful. Thanks!

Hey there! I've got some experience working with cars (I'd say low to medium experience level). I actually had a similar issue with my 2013 Infiniti FX diesel's massage seat last year. The symptoms were exactly the same massage function just died completely. Turned out it was a loose connection in the wiring harness going to the seat control module. My mechanic found that the plug had partially come loose and some pins were corroded. They had to clean the connections and secure the plug properly. Total bill came to 95€ for diagnostic and repair work. Before you replace any parts, I'd suggest having a technician check the wiring connections first it might save you some money! Would you mind sharing if you're getting any error messages on the dash or if there are any other electrical issues with the seat? Also, does the regular seat adjustment still work normally? This info could help pinpoint if we're dealing with the same problem.

Thanks for sharing that! Mine's at 179255 KM and just had service last month. The regular seat adjustments are all working fine no error messages or anything. It's literally just the massage function that's dead. I did try disconnecting the battery for 10 mins hoping for a reset, but no luck. Interesting that yours was just a wiring issue gives me hope it might not be too expensive! I'll definitely have them check the connections first before jumping into replacing parts. Did your mechanic have to remove the whole seat to access the wiring?

Hey again! Yeah, that sounds very similar to what I experienced. Mine was around 165000 KM when it happened these things just pop up with age, I guess! To answer your question in my case, the mechanic didn't need to remove the entire seat. They were able to access the wiring harness by partially tilting the seat forward and removing some of the plastic trim pieces. The whole job took about an hour or so. Since you mentioned trying the battery disconnect (good thinking, by the way!), and considering all other seat functions are working fine, I'm even more convinced it could be a wiring issue like mine was. The massage motors get a separate power feed through a different connector than the main seat adjustments. One thing I forgot to mention in my first reply before taking it to the shop, I noticed that sometimes if I moved around in the seat, the massage would occasionally work for a split second. That was another clue pointing to a loose connection. Have you noticed anything like that? Keep me posted on what you find out really curious if it turns out to be the same issue!

Thanks so much for all that detailed info! No, I haven't noticed any momentary function when moving around in the seat it's completely dead all the time. But it's really helpful to know about the separate power feed for the massage motors and that they might not need to remove the whole seat. I've actually booked it in for next Tuesday at my local Infiniti specialist, and I'll definitely have them check the wiring harness first. Really hoping it's just a connection issue like yours was the thought of replacing the whole massage system was making my wallet nervous! I'll update this thread once I know what the problem is. Thanks again for your help it's given me a much better idea of what to expect when I take it in!
