Infiniti EX Key Fob & Lock System Going Haywire?

Locking/Unlocking issue

|

Key fob issues

Hi everyone, having trouble with my 2013 Infiniti EX (diesel, 230k km). The central locking is acting up sometimes the key fob doesn't work, and I'm getting unusual locking/unlocking issues. Had a not-so-great experience with my last mechanic, so I'm looking for advice. Has anyone dealt with similar problems? What was the actual issue and how much did the repair cost? Would really appreciate any recommendations for trustworthy mechanics who know their way around Infinitis. Thanks!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2016 Infiniti QX50 diesel last summer. The symptoms were pretty much identical unusual central locking issues and an unreliable key fob. Turned out it was more than just a dead battery in the remote. Took it to my regular garage and they found corroded cable connections near the driver's door, which was messing with the whole central locking system. The issue was making its way through the wiring harness. The mechanic had to clean up all the connections and replace some damaged wiring. While it wasn't the most serious repair I've had done, it definitely needed proper attention to prevent further electrical issues down the line. The job took about half a day to complete properly. If you're getting these symptoms, I'd recommend getting it checked soon electrical issues tend to get worse if left unaddressed. Make sure whoever looks at it has experience with Infiniti's electrical systems, as they can be a bit tricky.

Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful since it sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. Do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? And has everything been working properly since then, or have you noticed any other electrical quirks?

Hey again! Just wanted to follow up on your questions. After getting my QX50 fixed last summer, I'm happy to report that the central locking has been working perfectly no more unusual locking or unlocking issues! The total bill came to 155€, which covered fixing the faulty cable connections. Since seeing my mechanic, I haven't experienced any other electrical problems at all. The key fob is responding reliably now, and the whole system works just like it should. While it wasn't exactly cheap, it was definitely worth getting it sorted properly rather than letting it get worse. Sometimes these electrical gremlins can be really annoying, but a proper fix from someone who knows what they're doing makes all the difference! Let me know if you need any other info about my experience with this repair.

Just got back from the mechanic today after following your advice what a relief! Found a specialist who really knows Infinitis and it turns out you were spot on. They found corroded wiring in my driver's door too, plus some water damage that was causing all the trouble. The total came to about 180€, a bit more than yours because they had to replace more wiring, but honestly, it was worth every penny. The whole job took about 4 hours, but now everything's working perfectly. The key fob responds every time, and no more unusual unlocking while I'm driving! Really appreciate you sharing your experience it helped me know what to expect and saved me from going to another sketchy mechanic. The guy I found actually specializes in Infiniti electrical systems, so I'll definitely stick with him for future issues. Thanks again for your help! Case closed on this electrical nightmare!
