Infiniti EX Cooling Flaps: A Common Overheating Culprit?

Thanks for sharing your experience! My car's got 118600 KM on it and just had service last month. The coolant temp usually hovers around 95-98°C during normal driving, but lately it's been climbing to about 102-103°C, especially in city traffic. The fans seem to be working, but they're kicking in later than usual. I can hear them running at full blast more often than before. Think I'll have it checked out soon don't wanna risk any engine damage. Thanks for the heads up about the wiring harness I'll definitely mention that to my mechanic!
Hey again! Those temp readings you mentioned are really similar to what I experienced with my QX50. Mine was also running about 3-4 degrees hotter than normal before I got it fixed. And yeah, I totally get what you mean about the fans mine were doing the exact same thing, coming on late and then working overtime. Just wanted to add after fixing the wiring harness issue I had, the temps went right back to normal (around 90-95°C). But here's something I didn't mention in my first reply I also ended up having to clean out some debris that had gotten stuck behind the radiator shutters. It was basically acting like a barrier and making the whole problem worse. Might be worth checking that too when you take it in. Since your mileage is pretty close to what mine was when I had the issue (mine was at about 125,000 KM), it's definitely worth getting it looked at soon. Really glad you're not waiting around these cooling issues can get expensive if they're left too long. Let us know how it goes at the mechanic's! I'm curious if it turns out to be the same problem.
Really appreciate all the detailed info! You're right the similarity in symptoms and mileage is pretty striking. I've actually booked it in for next Tuesday morning, and I'll definitely have them check both the wiring harness and look for any debris buildup. The whole temperature situation has been making me nervous, especially during my daily commute in traffic, so it'll be a relief to get it sorted. Thanks again for sharing your experience it's super helpful knowing what to expect and what to point out to the mechanic. I'll probably post an update once I find out what the actual issue is!
Hi there! I had a somewhat similar issue with my 2015 Infiniti QX50 last summer, and I have some experience working on cars (though I'm not a pro mechanic). The symptoms sounded just like what I dealt with my radiator wasn't getting proper airflow because of a damaged wiring harness for the radiator shutters behind the front bumper. Took it to my trusted workshop and they had to remove the bumper to access and replace the worn harness. Total cost was around 270€ including parts and labor. But before jumping to conclusions what's your coolant temperature reading like? And have you noticed if the cooling fans are kicking in properly? Might help narrow things down if you could share those details. Looking back, wish I'd caught it earlier before it started affecting engine temps. Let me know these details and I can share more specific advice from my experience!
