Inefficient Heating/Cooling and Defrost Issues in 2001 Fiat Marea Seeking Suggestions and Mechanic Recommendations

Mirror doesn't defrost

Insufficient Cooling/Heating

Hey wondering if anyone can shed some light on a situation I have going on with my 2001 Fiat Marea, Gasoline engine with about 88943 km on the clock. The heating and cooling system is pretty inefficient and the mirror refuses to defrost. I'm a little suspicious it has to do with a faulty defogging sensor, but I'm no expert! Last mechanic I visited left a bad taste in my mouth and I'd really appreciate hearing about similar experiences you've had. Any idea what's going wrong and any decent mechanic recommendations? Thanks in advance!

Hey there! From what you've described, it definitely seems like you have a cable connection issue. I had a very similar issue on my 2004 Fiat Stilo last year. The defogger and the heating and cooling were not functioning well, similar to your Marea. Turns out, the problem was a defective defogging sensor as well as a faulty cable connection. The mechanic had some trouble diagnosing it at first due to the complex wiring system in our good old Fiats. They ended up checking the linkage between the sensor and the defogger, identifying the broken cable connection as the culprit. It wasn't necessarily a serious issue but definitely a significant one - if left unfixed, it could have led to more electrical system failures. So, I'd suggest you not to try to ignore it or postpone the repair. A thorough check-up and cable repair might solve your problem. As for mechanics, it would be best to find one who's proficient with the electrical systems of this brand, since they can be a bit unique. Wish you the best.

Hey! Cheers for sharing your experience with the Fiat Stilo. If I'm getting you right, you had issues similar to mine and it boiled down to a connection problem. Sounds like those electrical systems can be a bit of a pain, huh? You did mention that if ignored, even this seemingly small fault could spiral into other failures, which set some alarm bells ringing! I am curious though, how much did you end up doling out for this repair and the diagnosis? Also, has your Stilo had any other electrical problems since you got this resolved? Appreciate your attention to this!

Hey! You got that right, these old Fiats can give us a run for our money with their idiosyncratic electrical jumble. You're right to stay alert, better safe than sorry with these seemingly minor issues. As for how much I got to part with, the diagnosis and cable repair set me back by about 155€. Not a small sum, but seeing the relief on my ride's face (if you can call the dashboard a face) was priceless! After that mechanic visit, I've had no serious glitches in the electrical department, touch wood. Notably, the pesky sensor issue did get fixed post this repair. So the mirror defrosting works like a champ now! Sure makes those winter mornings less of a pain, y'know? Anyway, hope this helps you out, good luck with your Marea!

Hey! Running the numbers, 155€ seems a fair bit, but I suppose if it puts an end to my cooling, heating, and mirror defrosting issues, I reckon it'll be money well spent. Also, great to hear you haven't had any further electrical troubles since getting everything sorted out. Quite the relief, that! I think I'll be giving the local Fiat specialist a ring soon and hopefully nipping this issue in the bud. Nothing like functioning heating and defrosting to beat those frosty mornings, eh? Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience. Sounds like I've got some car maintenance on my agenda this coming week!
