Illuminated warning signals: suspected defective engine oil pressure switch on Seat Ibiza 2005

Oil light on

Hi, repair professionals! I'm a bit worried about my old, trusty 2005 Seat Ibiza (petrol engine) with approx. 104038km on the clock. The other day the oil light suddenly came on. My first suspicion is a defective engine oil pressure switch. What do you think?

Hey, take it easy at first, it doesn't sound good, but we'll manage. I have a 2008 Seat Leon, practically the big brother. Last fall I was really scared about the warning light. At first I thought it was something more serious, but at the garage it turned out to be a problem with the oil pump. They replaced it and everything was fine again. So my tip: off to the garage and have it checked. Fingers crossed, buddy!

Hey, how happy you must have been when you found out that it was "only" the oil pump. Can you remember the cost of the repair? You're helping me a lot, by the way, I was really worried :)

Hey, no problem, that's what we're here for! I had to swallow at the cost and was also a little surprised. Unfortunately, the community didn't exist here back then. The cable connection was probably contaminated with oil and I had to pay €350. But let's leave that aside, the most important thing is that the car is running again, isn't it? And to answer your question: since the trip to the mechanic, the fault seems to have been rectified. I hope this helps you a little and wish you good luck with your Ibiza!

Great, thanks for the encouragement and all the information, really helpful! 350€ is of course a tidy sum, but you're right, the main thing is to get the car running again. Wish you continued trouble-free driving and thanks again for your help!

Good day! Your suspicion could be correct. Firstly I would check the oil level and ensure it's adequate. If the level is fine, then the pressure switch might be faulty. Just to be on the safe side, I would suggest you have a professional diagnose it to prevent potential engine damage.
