Ignition problem with Toyota Aygo 2015 - suspected defect in the ignition starter switch

Car won't start

Ignition cannot be switched on

Hello everyone, I'm having a strange problem with my Toyota Aygo (built in 2015, petrol engine). The ignition won't turn on and the car won't start. I suspect that it could be the ignition starter switch. Have any of you ever had a problem like this and can give me a few tips? How did you get it fixed at the garage and what were your experiences? I look forward to your advice!

Hello, I had a similar problem with my Toyota Yaris (built in 2013, gasoline engine). My knowledge of cars is not very high, but I have a bit of experience through my uncle, who is a mechanic and taught me a bit. On my Yaris, the wiring harness was faulty, similar to your Aygo. It cost me 95.0 euros to get it fixed at the garage. They had to remove the old wiring harness and fit a new one. It could be the same problem with you. But it would be helpful if you could give more information about your Aygo, such as if you see any warning lights on the dashboard or if the engine makes any unusual noises when you try to start it. I hope this helps you a bit.

Hey, thanks for your reply. There are no warning lights on my dashboard and the engine isn't making any unusual noises. It's just like the ignition starter switch is not responding. By the way, I did the last service on my Aygo at 42,239 KM. From your experience, do you think I should take it to the garage even if there is no warning signal? Maybe I should have the wiring harness checked, like you did with your Yaris.

Hey, yes you could definitely take it to the garage, even if no warning lights come on. Sometimes such problems can be internal and difficult to detect without professional equipment. Even if your ignition starter switch is not responding, it is possible that the wiring harness is the cause. After all, this transports the power from the ignition switch to the starter. Perhaps there is a problem there. In my case, the wiring harness was the cause, as I said. If the car won't start, I would definitely have it checked. It's annoying and can cost a bit, but in the end the most important thing is that you're safe on the road. There are of course other possible causes such as the battery, the starter or the ignition system. But a professional at the garage can tell you that best. Good luck and hopefully the problem can be fixed quickly!

Hello, thank you for your detailed reply and the practical advice. Your suggestion about the wiring harness makes a lot of sense and I will definitely get that checked out. It's a bit frustrating, but your words have definitely helped me. I will take my Aygo to the garage and hopefully the problem will be solved quickly. Thanks again and have a great day!
