Hyundai Ioniq 2017: Unusual Air Conditioning, Warning Light Issues and Potential Solar Sensor Malfunction

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Insufficient Cooling/Heating

Blower does not work properly

Hey! I've got a 2017 Hyundai Ioniq, gas engine, 28,322KM on the clock. Recently blade's been acting all crazy, not blowing like she used to, and the heat/AC's been kinda sub-par. Then the warning light starts dancing on my speedometer outta nowhere. I've got a hunch it might be a wonky solar sensor. Had some bad run-ins with mechanics in the past, so a little apprehensive about getting it checked out again. Any of y'all had similar issues with your car? If so, how'd your mechanic deal with it? Don't feel inclined to write the next great American novel, just wanna know the major stuff. Cheers!

Hey! Not long ago, faced a similar issue with my 2014 Hyundai Tucson. My main hint that there was a bigger issue was the erratic behaviour of the headlights and dashboard lights, even after they were turned off. Turned out, lil' beauty had a defective wiring harness. Had it at the garage and the chaps confirmed that the wiring harness was the root cause. They had to replace it alongside some connectors that got damaged in the process. It wasn't a child's play, requiring considerable work, as they had to uninstall some parts to reach the faulty harness and install the new one, but it was worth it. The car's working like a dream now. No more weird flickering of lights, even the AC and the heater are back in business. So, you might wanna get that checked. It could be your wiring harness playing up. Cheers!

Hey there, Thanks for sharing. Your run-in sounds pretty similar to what's going on with my Ioniq. At first, thought it was just something minor, but now it's sounding like it might be a similar wiring harness issue. Can't say that I'm thrilled about it, but really appreciate the insight! By the way, do you happen to remember about how much you shelled out for the fix? And has everything been smooth sailing with your Tucson since then, or have any other issues cropped up? Cheers!

Hey! Yeah, it was a bit of a job indeed. I had to shell out about 155.00 € for the whole shebang. I know, it's a little steep but trust me, it's been worth every penny. After getting it tuned up by the mechanic, she's running like clockwork again. You've got me thinking, that wonky solar sensor you mentioned? Had a similar problem with my Tucson - turns out, it was faulty alright. Had that sorted too and now she's all sunshine and roses. Happy to say since the fix, my Tucson's been chugging along fine, no new issues to report. Keep me posted with your Ioniq, hope you get it sorted soon. Cheers!

Hey there, Well, that seems like a handful but worth it for sure. Thanks heaps for sharing details, certainly gives me a good starting point! The solar sensor might be another can of worms, but if it's part of the whole mess, better to fix it all at once, right? Your experience with the Tucson gives me hope that sorting out the likely wiring issue with my Ioniq would save me further headaches down the line. You bet I'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks again and hope your Tucson keeps running smooth! Cheers!
