Shaking while idling

Hey car experts, I need help with my 2018 Honda HRV Diesel. When accelerating, I get black smoke from the exhaust along with hissing and whistling noises. Engine power is down, and there's noticeable jerking. The car also shakes and sometimes stalls while idling. Check engine light is on. I suspect it might be related to the boost pressure system. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? What did it turn out to be, and how was it fixed at the workshop? Looking for real experiences to help pinpoint the issue before taking it in for repairs.

Had almost the exact same issue with my 2016 Honda CR-V Diesel! Those symptoms are super familiar, the black smoke, whistling, and power loss really had me worried. Turned out to be a faulty waste gate valve on the turbo. Had it fixed at my regular workshop, set me back about 860 Euro but solved all those problems. No more smoke, weird noises, or power issues since then. Which engine variant does your HR-V have? Also, what's your current mileage? Would help to know if you're getting any specific error codes. These details would make it easier to confirm if we're dealing with the same issue. This sounds very similar, but better get it checked soon, driving with turbo issues can lead to bigger problems!

Thanks for sharing your experience! I've got the 1.6L i-DTEC engine with 105571 KM on the clock. Just had my service last month too. Those symptoms you described with your CR-V match mine perfectly. Been getting the same drop in power and black smoke issues. I'll definitely check the waste gate valve, makes total sense given the whistling sound and boost problems. Did you notice any warning signs before it completely went bad? Just wondering if I should prepare myself for a similar repair bill. Thanks for the heads up about not delaying the fix. I'll get it to the workshop this week!

Yeah looking at your mileage and symptoms, it's definitely sounding more and more like what I went through! And yes, I actually did notice some early warning signs that I initially ignored (big mistake!). About 2-3 weeks before it got really bad, I started hearing this faint whistling noise during acceleration, but only when the engine was warm. Then the black smoke started showing up, just tiny puffs at first. I thought it would just go away But nope, it got progressively worse until I had all those symptoms you're experiencing now. With your i-DTEC engine, it's pretty much identical to what I had. Really glad I caught mine when I did, my mechanic said if I'd kept driving it, could've ended up with turbo failure, which would've been way more expensive! Quick tip: when you take it in, ask them to check the actuator connections too. Sometimes they can get loose and cause similar symptoms, which would be a much cheaper fix than replacing the whole waste gate. Keep me posted on what they find! Hopefully it won't hit your wallet as hard as mine did

Thanks so much for those details! Really helpful to hear about the early warning signs, I've definitely been noticing that faint whistling noise for a few weeks now too. Guess I should've taken it more seriously! Good tip about the actuator connections, I'll definitely mention that to the mechanic. Would be amazing if it turned out to be something that simple and cheaper. Though from what you're describing, I should probably budget for the worse case scenario just to be safe. I've already called the workshop and booked it in for tomorrow morning. Really don't want to risk any turbo failure! I'll update you once I know what they find. Thanks again for all your help, it's been super reassuring to hear from someone who's dealt with the exact same thing!
