Hot Vauxhall CrosslandX: Coolant Pump Issues & Solutions

Check engine light on

|

Overheating

Hey everyone, my 2022 Vauxhall CrosslandX (petrol) has been giving me trouble lately. Engine's running hot and the check engine light is on. I suspect it might be the auxiliary coolant pump acting up. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Would love to hear about your repair experiences and what the workshop did to fix it. How much did the repair cost you?

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2020 Vauxhall Mokka (I have some experience with cars, mostly basic maintenance). When my engine started running hot with the check engine light, I took it to my regular workshop. Turned out it was a loose cable connection to the coolant pump, pretty straightforward fix actually. My mechanic traced the issue, replaced the faulty wiring, and secured all connections properly. Cost me around 170€ total. Before I share more specific details about my repair, how high are your temperature readings getting? Are you noticing any coolant leaks? Does it happen more during city driving or highway? Just want to make sure we're dealing with the same problem here!

Thanks for sharing your experience! With my mileage at 193846 KM and my last service being just two months ago, I'm a bit surprised this is happening. The temperature usually hits the red zone during city driving, especially in stop-and-go traffic. Haven't spotted any obvious coolant leaks yet, but I'll definitely check more carefully. Your Mokka repair sounds way less scary (and cheaper!) than what I was imagining. Hope mine turns out to be something as simple as loose wiring too.

Hey again! Thanks for those details about your CrosslandX, that definitely helps paint a better picture. You know, hearing about your city driving issues really rings a bell with what I experienced with my Mokka. The way you're describing it, hitting red in stop-and-go traffic, that's exactly how mine acted up before I got it fixed. With your mileage being up there (mine was around 165000 KM when I had the issue), and even though you just had a service, these electrical gremlins can pop up anytime. The fact that you're not seeing any coolant leaks is actually a good sign, just like in my case, it might really be more of an electrical issue than a mechanical one. Quick tip from my experience, before you head to the workshop, try this: next time you're stuck in traffic and notice the temperature rising, try turning your heater on full blast. If the temperature drops a bit, it could confirm it's related to coolant circulation (that's what helped me diagnose mine initially). Tell you what, since you're dealing with similar symptoms, I'd suggest getting those wiring connections checked first before replacing any parts. Could save you a bunch of money, just like it did for me. Keep us posted on what you find out!

Wow, that's super helpful, especially that heater trick! I'll definitely try that out tomorrow during my commute. It's really reassuring to hear that your similar symptoms turned out to be something relatively simple and fixable. I've already called my local workshop and booked it in for next Tuesday, I'll make sure to mention the wiring connections to them first before they start replacing parts. Really appreciate you taking the time to share all these details about your experience. It's made me feel a lot less worried about what could be wrong with my CrosslandX. I'll update this thread once I get it sorted to let everyone know what the actual issue was. Thanks again for all your help!
