Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful actually, sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. I've been worried it might be something more serious than just the thermostat. Would you mind telling me how much the whole repair set you back? Also, just curious, have you had any cooling issues since getting it fixed? Cheers!
Hey again! Happy to help out! Since I got everything fixed up at my mechanic's, the car's been running like a dream, no more cooling issues at all. The total bill came to 110€ for sorting out the damaged wiring harness. They actually caught the thermostat problem while they were in there, so getting that fixed early probably saved me from bigger headaches down the road. The coolant temperature's been spot on ever since, and the check engine light hasn't made another appearance. It's definitely worth getting it checked out sooner rather than later, my Corsa's been perfectly fine for months now. Trust me, dealing with it quickly is the way to go. These Vauxhalls are pretty solid cars when you stay on top of the maintenance!
Thanks a lot for all the info! Just got back from the mechanic actually. You were spot on, it was a wiring issue plus a failing thermostat, just like your case. The whole thing cost me about 130€, which wasn't as bad as I'd feared. The mechanic I found was brilliant, really knew his stuff about Vauxhalls. He noticed a few other minor issues while he was at it and gave me some solid advice about preventive maintenance. It's been a few days now, and the car's running so much better, no more overheating, and that pesky check engine light is finally off! Really glad I didn't put this off any longer. Thanks again for pushing me to get it sorted quickly. You probably saved me from some serious engine drama down the line! Take care!
Hey! I had similar issues with my 2016 Vauxhall Corsa last summer. Started with the engine running hot, and the check engine light came on too. Took it to my regular mechanic, and it turned out the wiring harness near the cooling system was damaged, causing the ECU to get wrong temperature readings. The insulation had worn off, and some wires were shorting out. The repair involved replacing part of the harness and checking the entire cooling system. While they were at it, they found the thermostat was starting to stick too, so both issues got sorted together. It was definitely a serious problem that could've led to engine damage if left unchecked. I'd recommend finding a garage that specializes in Vauxhall, they'll know these common issues right away. The technician who fixed mine mentioned seeing similar problems in Adams and Corsas from that period.
