Thanks for sharing your experience! My mileage is at 57465 KM, and I had my last service about 4 months ago. The overheating happens mostly when I'm stuck in traffic, and yeah, I've noticed a small warning light popping up on the dash occasionally. It's good to know it might just be the speed sensor, definitely less scary than what I was imagining! Did your mechanic mention how long the repair usually takes? I'm trying to plan around my work schedule.
Hey there again! Yeah, based on what you're describing, especially the overheating during idle and that warning light, it's sounding even more similar to what I dealt with on my Eclipse Cross. When I had mine fixed, the whole repair took about 2-3 hours. My mechanic was pretty efficient with it. Just a heads up though, since your Outlander's got higher mileage than mine did when I had the issue (mine was around 45000 KM), it might be worth having them check the coolant system while they're at it. My mechanic actually did a quick coolant system inspection as part of the diagnosis, just to be on the safe side. One thing I noticed before getting mine fixed was that the overheating got worse in stop-and-go traffic, just like you're experiencing. It's because the sensor wasn't properly regulating the fan speed when the car wasn't moving much. Once they replaced the sensor, it was like night and day, no more temperature issues, and the A/C started working perfectly again. Let me know how it goes when you get it checked out. I'm curious if it turns out to be the same issue. These Mitsubishis are pretty reliable overall, but they do have their quirks sometimes!
Thanks so much for all the detailed info! It's really reassuring to hear your repair was straightforward and the cost wasn't too crazy. I'll definitely get it checked out this week, 2-3 hours isn't bad at all, and I can probably squeeze that in after work. Good call about the coolant system check too, I'll make sure to mention that to my mechanic. It's such a relief to talk to someone who's been through the same thing! I'll update you once I get it sorted out. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and tips, it's made me feel a lot less worried about the whole situation.
I'm a casual DIY mechanic with some experience, and I had a similar issue with my 2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Hybrid last year. The symptoms were exactly like yours, engine overheating and A/C problems. Turned out to be a faulty speed sensor. I took it to my trusted local mechanic, and they diagnosed it pretty quickly. The repair, including parts and labor, cost me around 250€. It's been running perfectly since then. Before jumping to conclusions though, what's the mileage on your Outlander? And have you noticed any warning lights on the dash? Also, does it happen more when idle or while driving? These details would help me give you more specific advice based on my experience.
