Thanks for sharing your experience That's really helpful. Sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with right now. Just curious, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? Also, has everything been running smoothly since they fixed it? I'm pretty worried about potential engine damage, so I want to get this sorted ASAP without getting ripped off. Cheers!
Hey again! Good to hear back from you! Yes, absolutely, I can tell you that after getting it fixed, my CR-V has been running perfectly fine with no overheating issues whatsoever. Such a relief! The repair was actually pretty reasonable, it cost me 95€ to fix the cable connection to the pump/control unit. The mechanic did a thorough job, and honestly, it was money well spent. I totally get your concern about engine damage, I was stressed about that too. But catching it early like you are is key. Since the repair, my coolant temperature has stayed completely normal, and the check engine light hasn't come back on. It's been such a smooth ride that sometimes I forget I even had the issue! Just make sure whoever looks at it checks those electrical connections first, could save you from unnecessarily replacing the whole pump unit like I mentioned before. Let me know how it goes when you get it looked at! Mike
Thanks Mike and everyone for your help! Just wanted to update you all on what happened. Took it to a mechanic yesterday and wow, you were spot on! It was indeed an electrical issue, a corroded wire connection to the coolant pump. The mechanic was super honest and showed me exactly what was wrong. Only cost me around 80 bucks for the repair since it didn't need a full pump replacement. The best part? My car's running like a dream now! No more check engine light, and the temperature gauge is staying exactly where it should. Such a relief to have it sorted without breaking the bank. Really glad I asked here first, saved me from potentially getting the whole pump replaced unnecessarily at my old mechanic's place. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction! Catch you all later!
Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2018 Honda CR-V (gasoline) last month. The symptoms you're describing match exactly what I experienced, engine overheating and check engine light. Turned out the cable connecting the electric coolant pump to the control unit was damaged and causing intermittent pump failures. The mechanic showed me where corrosion had gotten into the wiring harness. It wasn't just a quick fix, they had to replace both the cable and the connector assembly. It's definitely something you want to address quickly as continuous overheating can lead to serious engine damage. In my case, I was lucky to catch it early before it caused any major issues. If you're getting the same symptoms, I'd recommend having someone check the pump's electrical connections first before replacing the entire pump unit. Good luck! Mike
