Honda WR-V Power Steering Column Failure, Fixes & Costs
Electric steering column adjustment without function

Thanks for sharing your experience! My WRV just hit 185642 KM and had its latest service about 2 months ago. Actually, I didn't notice any warning lights before the steering adjustment stopped working, it just died suddenly one morning. Nothing came up on the dashboard either. It's annoying because the position isn't quite right for me now. Good to know about the wiring issue though, that gives me a starting point when I take it to the workshop. Did your car make any weird noises before it completely stopped working?
Hey again! Yeah, since we're talking about the same issue, let me share more about what happened with my HR-V. Actually, no, mine didn't make any strange noises before it stopped working either. It was exactly like yours, just stopped working out of the blue one morning. I remember being super annoyed because I'd adjusted it the night before for my wife to drive, and then couldn't move it back to my position! Since you mentioned your mileage (mine was around 170000 km when it happened), I'm now thinking it might be a common wear-and-tear issue in our Honda models. The wiring in my case had worn through at a point where it flexes when the column moves. The mechanic showed me the damaged part, the insulation had completely broken down and the wire inside had corroded. I'd definitely suggest getting it checked soon though. Driving with the wrong steering position can be really uncomfortable and might cause shoulder/back strain. Plus, if it's the same wiring issue I had, leaving it too long might lead to other electrical problems. Quick tip: when you take it in, ask them to check the motor connector too. In my case, they initially thought it was the motor itself, which would've been way more expensive to replace!
Thanks so much for all this detailed info! You're absolutely right about getting it checked soon, my shoulders are already feeling the strain from the awkward position. It's really helpful to know about the potential wiring issue and the worn insulation you found in your car. I'll definitely mention the motor connector to the mechanic when I take it in. Funny how both our cars had such a similar problem around the same mileage mark! Really appreciate you sharing that tip about the motor connector check, could save me some serious money if they jump to conclusions about needing a full motor replacement. I'll probably book it in for next week and let you know what they find. Thanks again for all your help!
Hey there! I've got some experience with cars, and I had a similar issue with my 2017 Honda HR-V last year. The steering column adjustment went completely dead, just like yours. Took it to my regular workshop, and it turned out to be a faulty cable connection to the steering column motor. The repair took about 2 hours, they had to remove some panels and replace the damaged wiring. Cost me around 155 Euro, including parts and labor. What's your current mileage? Also, have you noticed any warning lights on the dash before this happened? This info would help me understand if you're dealing with the same problem I had.
