Honda S660 AC Failure, Cooling Mystery Needs Solving

Air conditioning blows warm air

|

Insufficient Cooling/Heating

Hey all! Got a bit worried about my 2016 Honda S660 (34k km). The AC's been acting up lately, barely getting any cold air and the overall cooling/heating performance is pretty weak. The mechanic I went to last time was sketchy, so I'm hesitant to go back. They mentioned something about the air quality sensor being faulty, but I'm not sure if that's really the issue. Has anyone dealt with similar AC problems in their S660? What was the actual problem and how much did the repair cost? Would appreciate hearing about your experiences with reliable mechanics who fixed it properly. Thanks!

Hey there! I actually had a similar issue with my 2019 Honda CR-Z last month. The AC symptoms were exactly like yours, weak airflow and poor temperature control. Turned out the air quality sensor cable had corroded and was sending wrong signals to the AC control unit. My mechanic showed me the damaged cable, it was pretty obvious once they located it. The fix involved replacing the entire sensor cable assembly and recalibrating the AC system. It wasn't a major repair job, took about 3 hours total. Just a heads up, while this isn't a serious mechanical issue that affects engine performance, it's best not to delay getting it fixed. A faulty sensor can make your AC work harder than necessary and potentially lead to bigger problems down the line. From what you're describing, it sounds very similar to what I experienced. I'd suggest finding a certified Honda mechanic who can properly diagnose it. The sensor cable issue is quite common in this model range. Hope this helps!

Thanks so much for sharing your CR-Z experience! It really sounds like we had the same problem. The corroded cable scenario makes a lot of sense with what I'm experiencing. Just curious, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? And has everything been running smoothly since they fixed it? Want to make sure I'm prepared when I take it in.

Hey again! Absolutely, happy to update you! Yes, everything's been working perfectly since I got it fixed. The total cost was 95€ for the cable replacement and labor, pretty reasonable considering the hassle I was having before. The bad air quality sensor signal is completely gone now, and my AC is blowing nice and cold again, just like it should. You know what's funny? I was initially worried it might be something way more expensive, like a compressor issue, but it turned out to be just that faulty line/cable from the sensor. Such a relief! The mechanic showed me that these cables can deteriorate over time, which messes with the sensor readings. The repair was totally worth every penny, no more weak airflow or temperature control problems. I'd definitely say go for it, especially before summer hits. Better to fix it now than wait for it to potentially cause other issues. Let me know how it goes when you get yours fixed!

Thanks for all those details! Really puts my mind at ease knowing it was such a straightforward fix for you. Actually, I just got back from a new mechanic I found, they were great! Turns out you were spot on, it was indeed the sensor cable causing all the trouble. Got it fixed for about 100€, pretty close to what you paid. The mechanic was super transparent, even showed me the old corroded cable (it looked pretty rough!). The best part? My AC is working perfectly now! The air's properly cold again and the airflow is back to normal. Such a relief it wasn't anything more serious. Really glad I didn't go back to that sketchy mechanic from before, these guys were so much more professional. Thanks again for sharing your experience. It really helped me know what to expect and gave me confidence to get it sorted properly!
