Honda S2000 Emergency Call System Failure, Fix Needed

Emergency system without function

Hey everyone! My 2000 Honda S2000 has completely stopped responding to emergency calls. The emergency system isn't functioning at all, and I suspect there might be an issue with the emergency call module. Has anyone dealt with this before? I'd really appreciate hearing about your repair experiences and what the actual problem turned out to be. Specifically interested in workshop solutions that worked for you. Thanks in advance!

Hi there! I have some experience working on cars . I had a similar issue with my 2002 Honda Integra. The emergency call system failed completely, and after inspection, it turned out the speaker was broken. My trusted mechanic found that moisture had damaged the emergency call speaker unit. Got it sorted at the workshop for about 305 Euro, which included parts and labor. I'd suggest getting it checked ASAP since it's a safety feature. Better safe than sorry! Before I can share more specific advice about your S2000, Have you noticed any crackling sounds before it stopped working? Does the system show any error messages? Have there been any recent water/moisture exposure incidents? By the way, love the S2000! Classic Honda reliability, except for these occasional electronic quirks.

Thanks for your detailed response! My S2000 has been super reliable (200633 KM on the clock and just had its service), but this emergency call thing is driving me nuts. Actually, I did notice some static/crackling sounds from the system about a week before it completely died. No error messages though, it just stopped working out of nowhere. Never had any water damage that I know of, but given what you're saying about the speaker issue, I'll definitely get that checked first. Really appreciate the heads up about the potential moisture problem, makes total sense. Might reach out to my mechanic tomorrow. Good thing you caught yours early! These old Honda gems need some TLC sometimes, but they're worth it.

Hey again! Thanks for the follow-up about your S2000. Those crackling sounds you mentioned are exactly what I experienced before my system died, it's like déjà vu! Since you've got similar symptoms to what I had, I'm even more convinced it's probably the same speaker issue. In my Integra, the crackling started subtle but got worse over about a week. Just a heads up, when my mechanic opened up the system, he found that the speaker's connection points had corroded over time, even without obvious water damage. These old Honda emergency systems can collect condensation slowly over the years. The fact that you've got over 200k on the clock makes this even more likely. Quick tip from my experience, while you're getting it fixed, have them check the whole emergency call wiring harness too. Mine had some worn spots that could've caused problems later. Might save you another trip to the shop down the road. Keep me posted on what your mechanic finds! Always interesting to compare notes on these old Honda quirks. They're fantastic cars, but yeah, these electronic gremlins pop up occasionally.

Thanks so much for all this detailed info! You're really helping me narrow down the problem. The corrosion explanation makes perfect sense given the age of my S2000, and I'll definitely ask about checking the entire wiring harness while they're in there. Just called my mechanic and booked it in for tomorrow morning. I mentioned the speaker and corrosion possibility, and he seemed to think that was a really good lead. He actually said he's seen similar issues in other Hondas from that era. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, saved me a lot of troubleshooting headaches! I'll update the forum once I get the diagnosis. These old Hondas definitely keep us on our toes with their quirks, but man, I wouldn't trade my S2000 for anything. Thanks again for all the help!
