Thanks Mike! That's super helpful, I'm dealing with these exact issues right now and your experience with the PCV valve really helps narrow things down. Just curious, do you remember roughly what you paid for the whole repair? Also, has everything been running smoothly since, or have you noticed any other quirks pop up? I really want to get this sorted but also don't want to throw money at the wrong fix, you know?
Hey again! Just wanted to follow up, yep, I got the crankcase ventilation system fixed and it cost me 360€. Not exactly pocket change, but totally worth it considering how much better my CR-V runs now! The mechanic replaced the PCV valve and cleaned out all the gunked-up hoses, and I'm happy to report it's been running like a dream ever since. No more stalling, no more jerky acceleration, and my fuel consumption is back to normal. It's been about a year now and I haven't had a single issue pop up, the check engine light has stayed off too, which is always a good sign! Trust me, if you're seeing the same symptoms I had, don't hesitate to get it checked out. The peace of mind alone is worth the repair cost, and you'll probably save money on fuel in the long run anyway. My CR-V feels like a different car now, in a good way! Let me know if you need any other details! Cheers, Mike
Thanks everyone for the advice! Just wanted to update you on what happened with my Pilot. Finally took it to a new mechanic yesterday and guess what? Mike, you were absolutely right! The PCV valve was totally shot, and the ventilation system was a mess. The repair bill came to about 400 bucks, a bit more than Mike's but still reasonable considering how much better my car runs now. No more stalling, jerking, or excessive fuel consumption. The check engine light is finally off too! The mechanic I found was really thorough, showed me all the old parts and explained everything. Such a relief after my last terrible experience! He even gave the engine a quick inspection while he was at it, just to make sure there weren't any other issues lurking. Really glad I didn't wait any longer to get it fixed. Thanks again for helping me dodge what could've been a much bigger (and more expensive) problem down the road! Take care everyone!
Hey there! I faced nearly identical issues with my 2011 Honda CR-V last year. The symptoms were spot on, rough idle, stalling, terrible fuel economy, and that annoying check engine light. My mechanic diagnosed it as a failed PCV valve and clogged ventilation hoses in the crankcase system. The repair involved replacing the PCV valve, cleaning the entire ventilation system, and replacing a couple of degraded hoses that were causing oil leaks. It was a serious issue that needed immediate attention because the clogged system was causing increased engine pressure and oil contamination. If you're experiencing these symptoms, don't wait too long. A faulty crankcase ventilation system can lead to bigger engine problems if left unchecked. In my case, fixing it resolved all the symptoms you've described, and the car's been running smoothly since. Catch you later Mike
